NEW MOSHI LASER DSP UPGRADE

Post by crozza »

Hi All.

Well Ive had my Moshi box for a couple of months and it was time to upgrade to DSP.

I bought all the parts a couple of weeks ago,

1 2012 DSP Controller
2 1-Axis CNC/ Laser Machine Stepping Motor Driver (TB6560) ,
1 DC 24V 15A Switching Power Supply. Good for CNC Stepping Motor Drive
1 40W PWM CO2 Laser Power Supply 220 volt.

I decided to gut the entire box and remove the divider between the electrics and the laser compartment, and make a new box on the right side to house
all of the new electrics.
I did this as I will also be making a new x/y assembly, big enough to house the extra space.
Still have to finish off the painting of the box.

So How does it work..... :|

Mecahnically everthing works perfectly.
Control Panel arrows, Laser Test Fire, Limit Switches, Motors, Laser fans and Electrics.

BUT I CANT GET DSP TO TALK TO LASERCUT.

Heres the problem...
I have Corel Draw4. I can send a file using the Macro for PHCAD ( V4.47 ) in Corel Draw. It Parses the file into PHCAD ready for me to change any speed, cut, engrave settings and the like.
But I continuosly get the dreaded USB Communication unsuccessful " :2 USB comm right message.

Heres the weird bit.

Im running WIN 7, 32 bit. Windows sees the device in Printers and Devices as a device called FT245R USB FIFO. So it can see the Laser via USB. So why do I get the "Cannot Connect" message in PHCAD?.

Anyone have an answer to that?

Also If i run Lasercad 5.5.2 instead of PHcad it seems to not give me any connection issues as I can change the DSP Parameters via the PC. I cant do that in PHCAD.
This is obviously a PHCAD software/driver issue.

So I setup the parameters of the machine such as Speeds and Pulses etc etc... so the USB must be working. If i disconnect the USB cable from the PC it recognizes that I have done it aswell as reconnecting the USB cable again. So this must be ok.

Heres the problem if I use Lasercad...... If I send a file to the Laser using Lasercad ( V 5.5.2 ) I get the following message on the LCD panel and nothing else happens.
I have to press ESC to clear it.
Anyone got an answer to that one???

So far I see my $1000 upgrade going nowhere fast.....not happy.

Hi Walt

So PHcad dont work with DSP 2012..ok I will uninstall.

The download button fixed the other issue in Lasercad. Thanks.

Only other problem I have is my X motor makes a humming noise and gets very hot.
Does your machine do this. I have checked my wiring and swapped the stepper driver over asweel but it still does it.
Its like its recieving a residual current to it all the time.

thanks Ian

hi lan
yes mine did it too I have set the amperage on the stepper driver to 1A down and the stepper settings to max 800
this motors going hot no question thats the china syndrom I have allready replace the Y axis motor with a nema 17 from kehling and I thought I let the x motor run till it eventually burns out or not but for now it works perfect
did you connect the stepper driver from x axis to the left connector on the DSP?because some DSP are not marked
the left one is the X and the next one is the Y connector
did you make the manufacturer settings in the system settings similar to mine? attached
the range settings should not be bigger then 250 for X and 180 for Y
let me know if I can help you more
greetings
walt

Yes the DSP was well marked so all connections are good.
Everything works ok except the X motor gets super Hot!
I have stepper set to 0.6 amps.

Do you know were I can buy parts for these types of machines. I want longer drive belt and new motors for when i upgrade the x/y chassis.

What are the part number on your steppers? I run my X Stepper at 0.8A I don't have any heat issues. Also be aware that manufacturer parameters are stored on the DSP NOT in the software. You have to click read on the manufacturer parameters screen to see what your DSP is really using and click save after making changes to send those changes back down to the DSP. The same is true for the user parameters screen as well.

Ok. That explains why you are running 2000 Steps per inch in one axis and 1000 steps per inch in the other.
