New Issue - 1/4" Cut at start of every job
I adjusted my stepper drivers down to 16th steps instead of 8th steps tonight and I started noticing a weird behavior. My DSP now cuts a quarter inch line straight up from the origin before every job. Has anyone else seen this and have any suggestions for it?
I double checked my manufacturer parameters and I'm still set to low level effective and glass tube.

Hi Gadroc,
Check the setting "automate cut direction" and turn it off and see if that helps. It should be in the "Download" popup when you process a file and send it to the LCD screen interface. This setting does weird things.
Rich.

Unfortunately that didn't change anything.

Re: New Issue - 1/4" Cut at start of every job
So it looks like the bug is with the DSP controller and not the LaserCad software. After a little more experimenting I found that it will fire the laser based on the keypad settings for about a quarter inch towards the Y home at the start of every job from that jobs origin. Work around is to set power 1 on the control panel to 0 so the laser doesn't fire and set the control mode to soft.

Yes. I use the "soft" control method too. It's just easier as you use the mouse for most of the setting procedure and you don't get too confused.

That's the problem. I have the machine set to soft controls.
Here is what happens at the start of each job:
Here is what happens at the start of each job:
- Moves to the origin.
- Laser power is set to whats on the control panel display.
- Jog in the negative Y axis for about .250"
- Turn off laser
- Processes the rest of the job as expected under soft control

Ok. Some further troubleshooting has narrowed down the scenario.
Steps to reproduce:
1) On the DSP set config mode to soft layer params
2) On the DSP set origin mode to key
3) Open lasercad and draw a 50mm x 50mm circle
4) Set cutting power and speed in laser cad
5) Download job to DSP
6) On DSP keypad set laser1 power to anything that will trigger the laser to fire (above your minimum power)
7) Jog the laser head with keypad
8) Press origin on the DSP
9) Press start
Result is you will get a small cut at the origin and then it will start the circle. Repeat steps 6-9 again but set power to 0 and the line will be gone as the laser can't fire at 0 power. The power seems to be locked in once you hit the origin button as once you've pressed origin with zero power it stays that way even if I set a new power, but as soon as I hit origin with power above 0 it cuts this line at the origin.

Marco.
Have you guys been able to do anything about this one. Replicate it or fix it?
I almost destroyed hours of work last night when I forgot to set power to zero before hitting origin.

I recently got my DSP up and running and I am having the same issue. Has there been any work on a fix for this?

Sorry I didn't see this post. I was in Vagas during that time. I can't try it as all my DSP card sold out. I have to wait for the new card coming on next week. I did mention a 'tail' light issue to the programmer but not sure if it's related.
Try download the newer software and upgrade the mainboard with the patch see if it still happen. Better shoot me some pictures to see

Unfortunately it's still doing it. Exact same behavior as described in this thread above and this video.

Do you have a digital volt meter?Gadroc wrote:Unfortunately it's still doing it. Exact same behavior as described in this thread above and this video.
If you do then try to measure the output from the TTL port vs Ground at the moment of the 'extra' light happening.
Also, do you have other laser power supply can bu used for testing?

Gadroc and mattrsch, what kind of power supply you guys are using?
We couldn't duplicate the problem. The enginner follow your instuction but he couldn't get that extra line like what you had.
Did you two upgrade the mainboard yet beside the LaserCad v5.83?
Marco
