Analog Voltage Output - URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE

Post by loumart »

Hi all.

I have just purchased the CO2 DSP board and installed v4.38 of the software. I've got the X & Y axis working correctly and all limits are also working.

The problem I have is that my laser PSU requires an analog voltage (not PWM) to set the laser power. I've read and reread the manual but cant find the info on which output pin of the DSP board to use or how to change the software (if needed). I've also measured the pins with an oscilloscope and a digital multimeter but non of the output pins seem to output an analog voltage eventhough its supposed to support both PWM and analog PSUs.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Merry Christmas everyone :)

No this is no good I'm afraid. The diagram is for a PWM power supply. I know how to connect this type of supply up.

The problem I have is that my power supply needs an analog voltage to set the power NOT PWM

Please help

#3 is for PWM, #4 is for non-PWM.
Try it first.

Delay in reply due to illness and holidays

No, this is NOT correct!! Pin 4 is a PWM output and pin 3 is laser enable. Where did you get that information?

Also the other laser output connector (simulated in instructions) doesnt have the correct pinout (according to instructions).

Please send me the correct instructions for the board I have as the ones I'm using is for an older version board - this is not on and confusing to customers.

As I said, I have it set up correctly but cant get the board to output an analog voltage. It only seems to output PWM and this is of no use to me :(

I need this issue resolved this week

If you laser PS does not handle PWM, then you will want a straight 5v output from the card. That is available on Pin 6 (+) with Gnd on pin 1 of the Laser Power Supply L-P1 of the controller. (The Simulated Laser interface is just a connection for controlling a second laser at the same time.)

To adjust the power of your laser, just put a variable resistor (5K-10K) between pin 6 output and ground, with the center tap going to the input of your laser PS. That will give you variable power between 0 and 5 volts.

I copied the following from the V1.x manual.

Hi Tim

Thanks for the reply but I was promised the card would output an analog voltage like my old card did (leetro 6515). I'm not happy setting the power manually as I use different power gradients for some parts. I need the power to be set automatically by software.

I know I can put a filter in the PWM line to smooth the signal but I would prefer a cleaner output

Yes, I have read the part which you quoted but my problem is it doesnt list the promised analog voltage :(

I don't know if any change but there are two outputs port for the laser power supply

L-P1 is for PWM power supply

L-P2 is for analog power supply
* PIN1: Ground
* PIN2: Output 1
* PIN3: Output 2 (dual output)
* Water pump sensor
* Laser 5V output
* Enable (Leve Low)

To enable your PS, you connect #1 (L-P1) to the Ground of your CO2 power supply. #2(L-P1) to the Level Low (TL) of your power supply to 'enable' it. Then connect #2 (L-P2) to the Input of your Co2 power supply

This is what I can find from the manual.

One more thing, there is two jumpers JP4 and JP5 next to the L-P1 and L-P2. By default there is no cap and it's PWM enabled. To enable Analog (according to the manual), cap the last two pins (from the left side), it enable Analog Output

I wish you were correct but Im afraid you're not!

#1(L-P1) is ground
#2(L-P1) is laser enable
#3 (L-P1) as above but inverted
#4 (L-P1) 20KHz PWM output

#2 (L-P2) is certainly NOT analog voltage out.

#2 (L-P2) is another laser enable output on the board I have (checked with oscilloscope)
#3 (L-P2) as above but inverted
#4 (L-P2) I dont know what this is but it outputs a 20KHz signal and I cant change the duty of it so its not a PWM output(???)

There seems to be some big differences between the revisions of this controller.

Can you get in touch with the manufacturer and ask them for help as it seems that the instructions are outdated / incorrect

I hope we can get this sorted out

Thanks

Did you jumper the JP4 and JP5 ??

JP4 & JP5 have the middle pin bridged to the right pin with solder! This is because the other pin is routed to components which are missing! My feeling is that these components were the digital to analog converter or similar - why are they no longer there??

Have a look at a board you have in stock and you'll see what I mean

Can you take a picture of your card and let me see. I really don't know if they did some change. I already send a message with yell. I keep telling that not to modify things without to have my acknowledge. That's one bigger issue that we dealing with folks in China. They don't have "standard procedure". Anyway, I'm training them now and my new card should have better doc after March.

I've attached some pictures for you:

1. shows the full board
IMAG0021.jpg
2.Top of the board where the jumpers are. It clearly shows the missing components
IMAG0022.jpg
3.Bottom of the board where the jumpers are. I've marked where the solder bridge is on both of them

Do you have any further ideas?
