40 watt pwm powersupply does not work

Post by Jacala »

Hello!

I've got some trouble with my laser power supply.

is a 40 watt pwm from lightobject and it doesnt work.

I've got it hooked up like this:

DSP laser1 pin 3 to power supply IN
DSP laser1 pin 4 to TL
DSP laser1 pin 5 to WP and ground.

Just like in the manual on this forum

When I first started the machine I thought I heard a cracle (like exploding transistors etc.) but that could be my mind playing tricks.

the fan does not start turning but the fuse is fine. How do I test my supply? when I press the laserbutton on the DSP nothing happens :(

Is there some setting in the dsp that I have to change or what can i check on the power supply with my multimeter?

Edit:
When i got it, it was damaged, the TH-TL-WG-G-IN-5V connector was broken during transport the connector got pushed on and I had to solder the connector to the circuit board. The board itself looked fine and undamaged by eye. The DSP, motordrivers and powersupply in the same package are fine and functional so far.

What voltage did you use to power the power supply? Where you locate, US or Europe? What is AC voltage there is other than US? It sounds like you may apply 220V to 110V PS if you heard the crack. If not AC voltage issue, then you better check the High Voltage connection see if it got lose. If so, the 'open HV' may cause a damage to the power supply.

You may test the power supply by applying +5V to the IN and ground both WP and TL. It should output the peak power. Make sure you have the tube connected and water -cool. Do it with extra Caution as the output could be as high as 25,000V!!!

I did check before putting on power and the red switch is showing 220V and I'm in Europe.

I've just did your test:

I've connected TL-WP-G together

I've connected "IN" and "5V" with a push button but nothing happens.

When I use a multimeter and measure voltage between "G" and "5V" I measure nothing.

there is 220 volt on the circuitboard (measured fuse)

10 minutes later:

Was thinking about the connection. the TH-TL-WP-G-IN-V5 was broken. At the AC side the middle one looked good but did not connect good. I was measuring that one on the connector but it did not go in to the power supply. I'm gonna remove the circuit board now and resolder it. Hopefully it works!

Just a idea, when in transport, remove the connectors so that the can't put pressure on the circuit boards?

Solved. Stupid and: Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

doesn't work? is there power on the circuitboard? I assume there is....................... :?

I assumed the connectors where still fine because they looked fine. the where broken and the middle one had a hair fracture.

Now i can start adjusting and fine tuning the system.
