DSP and Synrad firestar 40 laser tube

I'm currently refurbishing a laser system, it's CPU got fried and I'll replace it with a DSP from lightobject. Has anyone here had any experience with chinese DSP and Synrad laser tubes?

Per programmer, the AWC608 supports Synrad RF with frequency being set to "5000Hz"

According to the diagram in that post, I should be able to connect the synrad Firestar T40. I've checked with synrad and they won't provide tech support for the conversion but I was able to download the manual for the Firestar, seems doable.

The parts have arrived past thursday and I'm ready to go! After thorrough research and documentation I'm wiring and prepping this frankenstein of a laser machine for a few trial runs.

Ok movement is working OK, and according to this image I should be able to jumper the Synrad Firestar to work on a continuous wave so it would be receiving PWM signals from the AWC608 without having to wait for the shutter or the safety signals.

The machine is working OK with the jumpers configured as depicted in the previous reply, it's even faster than before and with a little tweaking, I can get it to work quite better than it originally was.

It was an exciting endeavor but now I know far more than when it all started, thanks a million to this fin forum and specially to Marko Wong and his team for their support and their answers, their knowledge is impressive, I hope to keep on doing business with you guys!

Now, to work on my second machine!



P.D. since it's half an Gravograph LS600 and half a Shenhui, how shall we name this hybrid? LS shen? Shengraph? Gravoshenhui?

I'll be sending pictures soon once I clean up and organize the wiring and all the parts are firmly placed. Right now they're just sitting loose on the gravograph's chasis.

My Gravograph LS600 is working like a charm, I've already got it loaded with lots of engravings to make. First up, 4k keyrings/bottleopeners, half blue half red, all anodized aluminum, at 0.10$ each after costs, the DSP just payed for itself in a couple of days.

Will start working on my 2nd machine.

I too would like to see your machine. I have a Synrad Duo Lase 100w laser that I am looking to fire up. It has two inputs which must be similar to what your diagram shows, but internal as this was how it was controlled using the old computer control system.

Well I kept the solid state relays originally with the Gravograph LS600, each one of them to one PSU (lasertube and DSP)

I decided to keep the laser tube's original PSU, since it's working fine, and I haven't found a way for the PSU from lightobject to work with the synrad's internal RF driver.

I had to keep the back open and the PSU's exposed in order to ventilate, since the DSP's PSU didn't provide the 12vdc for the fan that came included in the casing. I'm guessing it's just defective, I had it tested and there's no voltage on the leads to which the fan connects.

The laser tube also has a 12vdc fan but I had to prescind of it, since I don't have a 12vdc power source, I got one in back order but in the mean time I'm cooling it off with a stand fan, it's working fine, I check the temp often. The Synrad tube has a temp security override that will shut it down in case it gets too hot.

Once the 12vdc PSU arrives I'll connect both fans and the machine will be finished! (still planning to do that with the extra Synrad firestar v40 I got lying around here)

Reading the manual for your laser tube;

The connector is pretty much the same to the v40, they're firestar after all. You'll need to make the same adaptations I did, according to the DSP's wiring diagram provided by Marko Wong. I kept the original power supply, if you have yours around it could help. The signal goes directly from the DSP to the laser tube's RF input connector, its DB15 interface. It was also internal, but removing the fan leaves them exposed, at least on both my Firestar v40s. There's a diagram on the manual on how to jumper the pins to work with the DSP awc-608, it's the same procedure for the firestar f100, I posted it above.

I know! I'll keep the "LS" initials and name it Lei Shen, after the chinese god of thunder. The 600 stays for the size of the table in mm.

Kyle you got some heavy power with that tube, I suggest you get it working and producing some money for you as soon as you can, the conversión wasn't really that difficult, I made it in a day with the help of a trained technician. He's specialized in laptops and cell phones repairs, has an Engineer's degree on electronics and is a friend of mine, which helps a lot. I've written a log and updated with every step of the process, I got it in my machine in spanish, I can easily translate that for you if you need it.
