it's a dxf file exported from cambam. delete the .zip extension from the filename. It's not zipped..
Any suggestion why this happens and how I might fix it ?

I got it to work by opening the dxf in autocad then saving it from there to dxf again. Then lasercad would open it.
I also have had no luck opening .ai files directly from lasercad. Is there a trick?

DXF's from illustrator always works if you do the following:
Release clipping mask
Release compound path
Ungroup all
Some of the above sometimes have to be done several times

yes this is something for marco to look in I try this too even if in the supported file .ai is there it will tell "parsing" but then nothing comes up.
maybe lin can fix it.
