hi all
I just installed the new airassist from marco and discovered that if the whole setup is used including the 18mm new lense then the focal distance is 70mm but the lense is only a 50.8mm.
I solved the probleme with using the original and just used the new lens part it fits perfectly and the air nozzle fits on this part .
now everythings is back to normal
I just thought if somebody wana converd this too then just let the old parts in ( this way not refocusing and alignment required)

I was looking at that this morning before work. Glad to hear I can just attach to the existing "top half" I have. Other wise I was going to have to go cut a few more shims for my cutting table.

What kind of air assist pump are you using? The hole in my nozzle is FAR to big at nearly a half an inch and I'm getting no real airflow and materials are flaming up again. I'm going to have to go back to my off center nozzle.

for right now I just use a 12V car compressor who puts out about 30Psi unregulatet and it works
I waiting on the airbrush compressor from harborfreight should be here on the 21.
the good part on marcos nozzle is that it is short and gives not problem with the bigger opening whats on mine about 3/8 inch.
I also have the air assist nozzle from bard but this is very long and the whole is only something like 3/16 and a bit loose on the lense end what needs to be fiddle around a bit that the laser does not hit it.
compare both I had to say marcos needs to have a smaler hole and bards needs to be shorter.
overall both perform ok .
I will see how it works with the airbrush compressor

I'm using the harbor freight airbrush air compressor and it is not capable of enough air flow with a nozzle size this big!

I dont know what ypou expect from the air assist.
usually it prevents the flames from going up to the lense and help cleaning out the cut line.
I have even try a dual aquarium pump and it works

I can barley feel the air at the material with the nozzle this big. Air assist is supposed to blow on the material not just keep it out of the lens. I had an offset one with only about an 1/8th diameter and on the same material it prevent flame at all not just lightly blew it away from the lens.

I got a small used airbrush compressor that someone gave to me and I tried making my own air nozzle from scratch. first I made one similar to the one marco sells (at leas the same idea) with a hole about 1/8 of an inch in diameter but it was almost impossible to avoid blocking part of the laser beam going thru that hole. I made a larger hole but the result was a wide air flow and low pressure
which was enough to keep the lens clean but not enough to blow away dust and smoke from deep cuts. Obviously I was not satisfied with that and I came with another idea. I wanted something that would create a very narrow air stream going right where the laser suppose to hit at with a considerable air pressure and here is what I used. A small aluminum tube and a small nozzle tip from one of those cheap airbrush paint guns, something that you could passible find at harbor freight. I know that out there is something that works and looks better than this but at this moment it helps a lot and probably in the future I will do something to better protect the lens from flying particles. My gain now is no flame, less smoke, deeper and cleaner lines. The bad part is that it has to be in an angle to prevent blocking the laser path but it is not that bad.

I have setup something very similar with the parts from an old airbrush. With the nozzle so big I'd have to have a significant air compressor which is not feasible where I have my laser located. I decided to stick with the epilog style off center like this. I fashioned a holder for mine and I'll get some snap shots up later today.

Here is the air assist I'm using now. Marco's nozzle just did not have enough pressure with my air source. I originally had the tube longer but had to cut it down since it was picking up small pieces and shooting them across the work surface. It seems good now to have enough pressure to prevent flame ups but not enough to launch 1/16th acrylic.

How big is your compressor? can you get a picture of it in here?

I'm using the 1/5hp harbor freight airbrush compressor. The nozzle, hose and tube are from an old Testors Aztec airbrush I had that I never used. I fashioned the mounting plate out of 1/8th and 1/16th inch acrylic.
