How is PPI Setting used? (Lasercad / X7)

Hello,

i did not find any information on how i can use the ppi setting in lasercad for LO X7. Does anybody have a good explanation how to use this and what it is used for? Is this used for cutting and engraving and what effect has a higher or lower number?
