Arcing to body frame

Post by ltran2000 »

Laser arcing to frame
I have build 1m2x2m4 laser, laser tube 130W that attach to gantry and power supply is stationary
in electrical box, it is about 3 meter away from laser tube, now it keeps arcing to body frame even
150mm away from laser tube, I try to move laser tube further away from the frame, it is not arcing
To body frame any more but arcing around laser tube glass, I try to have good ground or not it does not help,
Laser tube is good, cable connection is good, Should I need to put power supply next to laser tube on the gantry ?
any one with experiment please Help. Thanks in advance.

The Highvoltage wire should be as short as ,physically, possible and at least ~3-5cm away from the frame.
Placing the LPSU near the HV-end of the tube is the best you can do.
There can be a microcrack in the insulation and after it sparked there surely is a trace..
The cable should be clean and free of sharp bends and cracks.
You may try to insulate it more by sliding a teflon or silicone sleeve over it.

Thanks Kees
I did everything already, put silicon tube, put ceramic isolation around laser tube, grounding, but still get arcing, the problem seem is very weird
some day I cancut all day long without arcing some day it coming back, the cooling water temp is controlled to 20-220c, so I think
only way is put Laser PS next to lase tube like you recommend, Thanks

Could you post a video showing the arcing or post pictures, that way I may be able to come up some idea
