I am using a JSM 3060U 50W laser cutter controlled by Newlydraw 1.5 and have recently been getting the dreaded "logic port 1" receive data error" when I try to run a program... ANY program. I can select the cut job, I can position the laser head with the step commands in the software, I can test fire the laser... but when I go to start cutting the laser barely fires for a split second and the cutting head barely twitches then all stops.
At this point I click on any of the control buttons in the software and receive "logic port 1: send data error" or "logic port 1: receive data error". I have to power cycle the laser to get it to respond to the positioning commands.
Any idea what to look for?
So, I was already wanting to upgrade to the DSP controller, but I am not quite sure if the new kit will work with this machine. The current controller board is a V8.1 (common chinese controller). The stepper driver board is Leadshine M542-05.
Will this http://www.lightobject.com/AWC608-Comme ... -P321.aspx kit work?

Sure it will work. You can keep your two 542 Motor drivers but not the current controller.
It is similar to the K40 upgrade. To be able to complete this upgrade project, you must have a little electronic knowledge.

Re: Logic port 1 : recieve data error and AWC608 upgrade?
Good to know!
It looks to me like the AWC608 and LaserCad upgrade is just what I want for this laser, but I don't want to upgrade if it still won't work.
Everything was working fine one minute, and the next it quit.
I have tried: different USB cable
touch up the solder joints for the USB plug on the V8.1 board
Rebooting/restarting computer and laser
All to no avail. Although the USB port is definitely more stable on the board now
I can software (newlydraw 1.5) control (step move) the head, and test fire the laser just fine. It seems that combining motion and laser is suddenly out of the question.
This is not an Artsign/Newlydraw support forum... I know. I just wonder if others have cured these symptoms by doing this upgrade.
Thanks.

Re: Logic port 1 : recieve data error and AWC608 upgrade?
Ok. I bought the kit and I'm going through the wiring diagrams BEFORE I remove anything... I only have one of the Leadshine M542-05 stepper driver boards. Will the PowerStep PSD5042 work with it?

Or do I need to have matching driver boards?
Fun factoid, my JSM3060U controller board has ribbon cable running directly from it to a small circuit board which feeds the Y-axis motor. No microstep controller for that one.

Stepper motor driver compatability
Is it necessary or desirable to use the same model stepper driver for each motor with the 608?
Can I use my Leadshine M542 on the X-axis and this
http://www.lightobject.com/3MD560-Leads ... -P836.aspx
on the Y-axis?
Or do they both need to be the same driver with this awc608?

No, you don't need identical motor or driver for X & Y. As long as they work, then it will work.
Just pay attention no over current. If the motor rating is 5A, then you should use 4.0 to 4.5A to avoid over-heated.
Once motor go over 80'c (or 130'C) I forgot, then it start demagnetized.
