AWC-608 Setup Questions

Post by JNasiatka »

Hi All -

I just finished upgrading my LaserSaur to use an AWC-608 controller - it's working pretty well straight out of the box, but I need to do some tuning
of the motor parameters and wanted to get some advice/tips.

It raster etches/engraves just fine, but when cutting, there's some jitter at the end of travel, and I'm not sure if I need to twiddle with one of the
different acceleration parameters or one of the Jerk settings. The attached picture shows the problem.

First up - the machine... It's an early model LaserSaur (open source) laser cutter - their software just wasn't up to snuff and I've upgraded. It's
got belt driven stepper motors and a standard 100W glass CO2 tube.

The different parameters from LaserCAD are as follows:
MFG Parameters:
um/pulse = 2.388541
Pulse edge = Falling
Datum = Positive
Key Direction = Positive
Limit Polarity = Positive

Range = 1220mm x 610mm

Start Speed = 15
Max Accel = 1000
Max Speed = 500

Laser Params:
Laser Mode - Glass Tube
TTL - Low Effective
PWM = 20K
Max Power = 98%

User Parameters:
Space Speed = 300
Start Speed = 1.00
Speed Factor = 2.00
Space Jerk = 40k
Cut Jerk = 25k

Min Acceleration = 300
Cut Acceleration = 1000
Space Acceleration = 1000
Engrave Acceleration = 1000

I kinda remember from setting up MakerBot that the Jerk factor can influence that behavior, but acceleration might play in as well.

Any advice on which knobs to start with would be appreciated.

Cheers

Try 10,000 on X acceleration and 5000 on the Y
1000 is very slow

Hi Marco -

The increased acceleration helped. The underlying problem was one stepper motor being on the edge of
dying and inducing vibrations to the gantry. It all seems to be pretty good now!

Thanks!
