Recommendation for ammeter?

Post by ramos »

Hi all,

I have a PM 128-E would this suffice to be the ammeter for monitoring the mA output of the laser tube?

Here is the datasheet for the meter:

I used it previously on the Blacktooth as a voltage monitor for the pot, but now with new DSP controller no need as its PWM finally!!!

Thanks,
Ramos

It certainly looks OK for the job (provided you short the jumpers/pads correctly!). Make sure you use the independent 9v power supply for it.
However, for the very small cost of a LO meter and voltage regulator I, personally, would stick to the recommended device - then if anything goes wrong there will be plenty of people (including that wise old owl, the Chinese Sage) to come up with solutions.

Any recommendations on which pads to solder? I am thinking the 500 VDC and the milli-amp selection. Why do I need to do the 9V separate supply, as I was wanting to power it from the 5V on the laser power? I am just asking to try and learn.
