PSU damaged in transport

Post by daniel.macke »

Hello Marco,
When I started unpacking my 80W PSU I just received today, I could hear a bad noise coming from something moving inside the unit.
I opened the cover to check the origin of the noise, and found the 2 HV coils broken! You can see the detail on the photos
The package itself was in perfect condition.
Can you send me a replacement unit, or just the spare HV coils and I will replace them?
Regards.

:o !

Each PSU got bubbles wrap protection , so one can imagine how rough those postman are taking care our packages!

Dan:

Try to power it with low current output. I just need to make sure that the PSU is still functioning. You can glue the magnet with super glue
After testing, then you can take it out and I will order you two transformers

What is your order#? I believe we purchase insurance. If so, I need to file a claim. Very sorry to see that happened!

Hello Marco,
For the first transformer (on the left), just the magnetic core is broken, and I agree to say that gluing can allow to test the PSU.
I am more afraid for the second one (on the right): the primary coil connections are still on the PCB, separated from the coil itself!
It would be very hard to establish a connection with the broken ends of the primary coil on the second tranformer, because they are inside the resin.
Can I do a test with only one tranformer? I have got a HV resistor array that I already used for testing a second hand laser PSU, it is 576kOhm an it can dissipate 1kW. I also have an oscilloscope if needed.
If I absolutely need to connect the second transformer for testing, then I will try to carefully remove some resin...
Just for information, no bubbles wrap was used to protect the PSU, but only styrofoam chips filling the package. But it is not enough to disculp the postmen, you still need a very hard shock to cause such a destruction...
Best regards.

Hello Marco,
I have filled and sent back the insurance information request following the link in your last email.
How much will it cover?
I have been examining the second broken transformer with more attention and I think it could be dangerous to remove some insulating resin to connect the primary and test the PSU.
I would like to get a new unit, the same as this one if you have it in stock. I could then use the broken one for spare parts, or repair it later with 2 new transformers.
What is the remaining cost for me to pay in this case?
Regards.

Marco,
Thanks you for your quick answer, my order n° was 202238.
I am thinking about using a long focal lenght to cut up to 10mm thick balsa wood with perpendicular edges.
Will I improve the result using the special tip reference LSR-LH100TIPS with a 100mm lens and can I use them on my laser head (part of a XLE 1200x900 stage)?
Regards.

The default laser head on XLE stage support 50.8mm to 63.5mm (barely cover 68.5mm). If you don't get the 100mm tip, part of the beam will be blocked by the tip. It will cause a lot of heat on the laser tip and cutting power has reduced to, probably 30%!

Hello Marco,
Thanks for your answer, but my question was about getting your special tip reference LSR-LH100TIPS and mount it on my existing laser head : is it possible?
And do you think I will get a better cut using a 100mm lens instead of 68,5mm, in 10mm thick balsa wood?
Regards.

Hello,
My laser cutter, based on Lightobject XLE1200x900 stage, Reci 80W laser tube and PSU has now performed its first cuts, and it is giving great results!
The XY stage is very accurate with no backslash, even the most complex shapes can be cut with high precision and no hand finish is necessary.
I have built this machine for hobby model planes building, it helps me save a huge amount of time and even design parts that would be even impossible to cut using conventionnal tools.
Thank you for these great products and the support : when my PSU arrived broken, I just send photos and received a new one free of charge 1 week later!
Then everything was fine, the setups to obtain a good result are finally quite easy to make...
Best regards.

I'm building a 60W 900x600 right now for the same purpose - model airplane parts. My dealings with Marco/LO have been equally fantastic, and I can't wait for "first light."

I've got a build thread going on RCGroups and I'd love to see contributions on it from other LO customers. In the 2 months I've been working on it, there are over 8500 views and lots of construction photos. Comments are welcome!
