Setting UM

Post by scottbgv »

I am having trouble setting the UM I program it in and it will not accept/change
It is drawing a 191 mm line when it should be a 100 mm line I put it in and the line does not change size next time I cut it

You need to provide information about the setting drive and the setting on the LaserCad. Not to mean of offensive but no one could tell you how to solve it if you just post your question "Why it won't work" without provide enough information. Please tell us the motor driver setting (current & microstep), lasercad parameter setup (screen shoot). BTW, we have posted many times regarding this topics on the forum. Please do some search by using the "Search" feature

Thanks

You can't set UM less than "1" (1 or 2, I forgot). Anything lower than 2 is not stable
Are you using 2M415? Also, what machine are you installing to? If K40, it is not right

OK, then your setting is not right.
Do this:

X:
Current: 0.63A (could be different but I used most popular here)
SW1 OFF
SW2 OFF
SW3 ON

Y:
Current: 1.05A (again, could be less or more)
SW1 OFF
SW2 ON
SW3 OFF

X & Y:
SW4: ON
SW5: ON
SW6: OFF

Set "um" to "6.7" (or 12.6 sorry I forgot which one but it will work, just ratio will be out by 50%) should get your XY moving quite smoothly but not 100% yet. But we get further fine tuning from there

The reason the um is different is a just did the 100 to 197 thing again and it changes it

I don't understand that why you have 26 and 4.38 on your 'um' setting?!
If you set the micro-steop to 8 or 16, you should use 6.5 or 12.5 (estimate value).

Unless you used different motor or installed your own motor, otherwise most K40 are generic and should come with the same XY motors
Both XY are belt driven direct, I don't believe that you could have 26:4.38 on the um. It doesn't make sense to me

BTW, I posted many times on how to calibrate the out of ratio issue. Just use Search and you should find many post telling you how to fix the issue

I had set it to what you said and then I was trying to do the step where you draw a line measure it and and have the machine do the equation to calculate it like the manual says to do. the motor I have is one I just bought from you. Is it possible they sent me the wrong motor? I know how it is suppose to work I have done it many times and it does not work it is still drawing a line that is twice the size as what I ask it to! If I try to do a 6 by 6 image it turns out to be a 12 by 6 image. I will change it again to exactly what you said again and show you screen shots of every step and what the out put is. Give me just a couple minutes. I am sorry I am having trouble.

There is nothing wrong with the motor. Each motor has its own specification. Should let me know that you have different motor installed. Otherwise, I'll use the generic setup for the original K40 to help you to solve the issue.

What you need to do is use the 'um' calcuator to find the 'um'. Next to the 'um' setting, there is a button
Just enter 'Expected: 100mm', and Acutal length: 197mm, it should get you the um

You need to do both for X and Y. Save it and press "RESET". That should give you correct ratio drawing
