soo frustrating missaligned cuts and wobbly lines... Solved?

Hey, I'm still struggling with my new setup, I'm beginning to think its cursed when I started it wouldn't cut properly on both axis, I got around this by reducing the speed (coincidentally is now in proportion to the estimated time which leads me to think the k-40 wasn't cutting at the speed it said it was).

Now it cuts a test square nicely, but if you rotate it 45 degrees to get both motors turning at the same time it creates a wobbly cut. Also if you do a large sheet it doesn't always meet at the ends. It sometimes shifts out of place but not always in the same spot.


I'm pretty sure its hardware, but I can't tighten the belts any more as they jam. I have a pencil line of the pulley to make sure its not slipping, it doesn't seem to. I have noticed a wobble in the y axis drive shaft when its connected to this. Not this version, its one that came with the lite stages but I couldn't find a pic of that one.

Its quite noticeable but I can't seem to eliminate it no matter how I try to adjust the grub screws. Could this be the cause or has my belt stretched? If so can I get one in the UK? And what to search for if so?

Any ideas would be gratefully received as I'm tearing my hair out.

Its really starting to freak out now, its started to mirror the output, without being told to, in fact I didn't know you could. here's a couple of pics.

Not sure what you mean " mirror the output". Can you post the original picture and the output?
Double check the "Positive Relative" if you didn't pick it correctly, it could mirror the image.

If changing Rising and/or Falling edge didn't help, the chance is hardware issue. You may want to do Rising/Falling edge one at a time, not both.
Also, what kind of power supply did you use to power the motor and the DSP? What is max amp output? 12V or 24V? What is resolution on the motor driver? 1/8 or 1/16 or something else? For K40, use 1/8 or 1/16 is recommended. 24V 5A power supply is recommended.

No panic here. I'll help you to get your system working. As long as no electronics burned or breaking tube, nothing to worry! DIY supposed to be fun, not sweating, got it?!

I managed to reset the dsp with an earlier config file I saved, it solved the mirroring issue, but it still won't line up. I have a sneeky suspicion that its the flexible coupler, I wrapped the stepper shaft in tape and it improved it slightly but its still not right. I've ordered a new one but I'll have to see if theres anyhting I can do to get it to work in the meantime as I've got a customer waiting for some stuff.


Edit, oh by the way I'm using everything from you. I've got the ps, dsp drivers etc and I'm using the lite 400x600 stages (which I think the issue is)

I think I've solved it temporarily, by wrapping a piece of packing tape around the shaft, it seems to have stopped the missalignment. I've found the source of the wobbly cut too, the lens was loose in its holder, whilst the holder was tight. I've made a washer for it to sit the lens in the holder a bit better, it must have worked itself loose over the last couple of months as it was ok not too long ago.

I've still got the software issue though. I've set my work sheet size to 600x 500,( I could possibly get more but it leaves me a bit of manoeuvre room) but if I place an object top right it actually comes through three inches or so to the left and down. I might try updating the dsp again, I'm currently using lasercad 6.46 but I don't know what version of the dsp firmware I'm at.

Ok, let me find the coupling for you. Since we just moved, it make take me a while to find the part

Regarding the origin, there is three way to set Origin:
1) Machine zero
2) Software controlled
3) Key control

1: it is absolute zero (0,0) as the HOOME of the machine
2: it followed the image laid on the LaserCad
3: you use LCD control to pan the location (or through laserCad arrow key) to move the laser head around, then press "Origin" on the LCD unit. The laser head will move to the same coordinate point next time machine start.

I had this issue and when I switched out the power supply from a generic cheap power supply to a quality name brand power supply the laser no longer made gaps and bad lines. I hope this helps.
