Great forum, I am a new member here.
Thinking about upgrading my Full Spectrum RE machine with AWC-608B, the 2012 Commercial DSP CO2 Laser Engraving/ Cutter Controller.
Also thinking about doing the same with a couple of Strong Signs SG-40.
Retina Engrave is slow and cumbersome. NewlyDraw has always been lacking, but at least it is straight forward and from what I've seen LaserCad is similarly low level and direct.
Is http://www.lightobject.com/2012-Commerc ... -P321.aspx all I need to upgrade either machine?
Is the install straight forward on either/both of my machines?

Depends if you have stepping motor drivers installed or not, otherwise the AWC608 is the only think you need.
Moshi board is built-in driver but it can handle small motor only say 1A or around. So, you need to get two drivers and I recommend the 2M415 (M415B). I don't know if Retina is self driven or does need two motor drivers. You can tell by looking inside of the machine.
Depends on you electrical/electronics skill, it's pretty stragight forward to do upgrade.
- DIR/PUL/+5V for motor driver connection (3 wires)
- TTL/PWM/Gnd for laser power power supply (3 wires)
- DC 12~36V power for the conntroller (2 wires)
- X-, Y-, Gnd limit switches (2 pairs wires)
That's the basic setup and should take less than 2hrs to finish all wire connection and with nice wrapped up

Re: DSP Upgrade Full Spectrum and Strong Signs SG-40
Marco,
Thanks for the quick reply and the information I needed.
It looks like I will need the Stepper Motor Drivers, so I've gone ahead and purchased the D/K40 Kit.
Looking forward to it.
