X and Y axis moving wrong directions

Post by Toasty »

Ok guys, I finally got some time today to get this thing put back together. Pretty straight forward stuff so far.

I turned the machine on for the first time and both X and Y seem to be moving the wrong direction.

I manually hit the limit switched then jogged, same thing, both moving reverse of what they should be doing.

I double checked the wiring and it's exactly the same as the instructional pdf Marco put together.

So, my question is, is this a setting on the controller or do I need to swap some wires on the stepper drivers? I would assume the latter but like I said, they are wired like the instructions say so I wanted to make sure.

Thanks for any help!

I swapped B+ and B- around on both drivers and it works fine now.

Now I need to tidy up the wiring and get the software working. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.

Told you I would be back soon! lol

Hardware seems to be working fine now I'm stumped on the software.

I'm trying to run a 100mm x 100mm square so I can measure it but I can't seem to send it to the machine.

When I click start the dsp tries to run the current file in memory. My dsp has an outline of donald duck (I think) and that's what it runs every time I click start.

Also, I get an error message when I try to save the parameters.

Funny thing is, I can jog the machine via the computer but files don't seem to send correctly.

Also, I have the update files for my dsp but I have no idea how to install them. I'm searching the forum but not finding the exact answer I'm looking for.

Thanks again!

Congratulations on getting the electronics worked out. Clicking on start is the equivalent of pushing the start button on the DSP control panel. It will run the current program selected in the controller. You need to click download to the left of the start button in the software to send the current project that is in the software to the DSP controller. When you do that, you will hear a beep from the controller. After that when you click start, it will run the program you just donwloaded to the controller.

Hope that helps.

Gotcha! Works great now.

Only issue I'm having now is that I tried to export some text as a .jpg from Corel Draw (fairly small too). Imported it in to Lasercad and tried to engrave it. After it got about halfway done it gave me an engrave over size error.

I hope I can fix that issue since almost all of what I do will be engraving from raster images.

Hi
you need ether and /or slow down speed, power or move the text in the programm to the other side if possible.
this comes from the overswing what the laser need.
but first do a format memory in the soft ware during download and also in the menue of the dispay, then reset on the display.

Thanks again, I'll try your suggestions.

I was doing some reading about the "engrave over size error" issue on the forum and it has me a bit concerned.

My plan was to set up rulers on the up/down table I ordered here so it's more like expensive commercial machines. That way I'll be able to have a repeatable x0 y0 starting point (which would be the upper left on my machine). If I can't engrave bitmap images fairly close to that point I'm going to have a lot of problems with what I want to do.

I guess I should mess around with it first before worrying about it. :)

Hi toasty
you will never get to workarea zero as starting point it will allways be about 1/2 inch away from true X and Y zero. it should not matter in your case becaus the frame from the up and down table is already this distance.
what did you set in the manufacturere settings as worksize area?? you can set them to X axis = 345 and Y axis 220mm and you could engrave with htis settings up to 200mm/s .

Actually, I'll be over from that point even further since I'm putting 1/4" rulers on the table too.

Like I said, I shouldn't worry about it until I actually have a problem and I haven't even messed around too much with the parameters yet.

It just concerned me a bit when the very first image I tried to engrave had the error. It's probably just not set up right.

I get my table today, after I get that in I'll spend some real time with the machine.
