Hi

I just received my DSP and had the same problem as you, but playing around for a while I found out that You user ELZ+ for autofocus. I'm not 100% sure because my machine is not finish yet and can not test it

in LCD, press 【Z/U】->【Auto Focus】, Z-axis will move at the speed of 【Z-axis reset speed】, stop till touch Z+ limit switch, and then move the distance as in【Focus distance】in opposite direction.

Hello Li,

Thanks you for your answer, i was in the assumption that autofocus is a tool you can install and that the machine automatically goes to the focus hight..
Meaning it will automatically move up or down the z axes, is this correct?

Not really. It is used for adjusting the distance between the laser head and the surface of an object that you want to do engraving or cutting. When you press "auto focus", the X-Y bed will move up till it hit the "Z" sensor , stop then backward to the distance you set say 6mm.
It doesn't mean that the laser head or the X-Y bed moving up/down automatically. It only serves the first time you run the auto focus

FYI, usually the distance between the object and the laser head is 6mm~9mm. But it depends on the type of laser mount and the focus lens 50.8mm or 75mm you're using.

Sorry its an old post but got a question about it. I suppose when the focus lens is 50.8mm, the distance from the laser head to the surface of the object should be 50.8mm. Why would it be 6mm?

Easy, Marco is just saying the tip of the nozzle NOT the lens which is higher up will be 6-9mm above the surface with the MUCH shorter stock lens that comes with K40s and such.

You correctly pointed out the surface of the lens to surface is the correct measurement. Some folks may not be smart enough and think the lens is the whole assembly and measure from the tip of the air nozzle, not the actual location of the lens in the assembly. Further, you really do want the air assist nozzle to be about that height for best function. He's not wrong, just he made his explaination more for the lay person with the typical hobby machine.
