cooling water

Post by brian257 »

Where I live I only have well water with a lot of iron in it so I have been using distilled water for cooling my laser tube. If I was getting the water from my sink I would just dump it and replace all the time to keep it clean, but I don't want to keep buying distilled water all the time to replace it when it starts to get slimy. Is there something I can put in the water like chlorine or antifreeze to keep the water clean longer that will not damage my tube, pump, or water lines?

hi there
you need a kind of ether R/O water what I am using or distilled water . it is not just the slime what builds up also minerals build up and over time destroy the tube.
you can clean the tube with 5 to 10% HCL, take the tube out and fill it not quite full with this HCL solution and let it sit for about 30 minutes then swivel it around for 10 min. and the rinse with distilled water at least 3x.
I bought a under counter revers osmosis system ( about $ 120 on ebay) and this is the best water, because I had bought distilled water from different sources and they all did settle some slime on the bottle within 2 to 3 month just sitting closed on the bench.

We use this this product in many applications and it should work well for lasers too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Interpet-Ltd-27 ... B003Y3UKZK
