power supply

Post by brian257 »

I just got a new K40 laser from Automation Technologies. Can someone tell me if this power supply is a DSP supply that will work with the DSP or will I need to get a new supply.

Afraid not! That power supply won't do the job so you'll have to buy a new one; make sure it has PWM facilities.
The advantages of replacing your old one are enormous and include (so I'm told) a MUCH longer tube life.

A couple of tips from someone who's just gone the route you're setting out on:
Strip everything out of the old electrics compartment and start from scratch.
Use Ribbon (multi-) cable as much as possible to avoid spaghetti.
Line the hole between the two compartments to avoid rubbing through insulation.
Put in a multiway mains socket (I stuck mine above the PSU) to allow for extra pumps, lights etc.
Leave enough space around the DSP to be able to plug into the two USB sockets (I didn't, major hassle!).

Also, and maybe this was just me, I managed to kill the ammeter fairly early on. Didn't kill its voltage regulator. Maybe order a spare (they're very cheap) and order a 20mm lens and spare mirror at the same time (running the K40 in its 'supplied' mode will have made these very dirty).

Enjoy. It's a great improvement.

Oh, and sort out your z-table... Another story.

I suspected that. Thanks.
