Voltage regulator for ammeter in K40 DSP upgrade

Post by NickWL »

I'm deep into upgrading my K40 to the full DSP version. Many little problems...
Current problem is:

I have the DEXU RF2405CS-2W voltage controller superglued to the back of my ammeter and using +5v from the controller module as its supply.
Is this right or should I hook it up to the 24v line instead?
Help much appreciated.

If you have a 5v output you dont need that regulator. I have mine running directly off the 5v output from my PWM laser Power supply. The regulator needs voltage from 9-18v to work properly.

Which begs the question: why was it in the upgrade kit?
I've searched the manuals but can't find anything directly relevant...

It is an isolated power module. It is better to use than sharing power from the DSP

That's what I thought Marco; which brings me back to the original question: should I feed it 5v or 24v?
Very little tech doc for this item on the internet, the nearest I could find suggests an input range of 4.5v to 18v, so for now it's on the 5v supply.
Is that OK?

Sorry for my oversight of this little device. You may input DC 24~36v and get an isolated 5V for the meter. Doing so will ensure no noise jammed from the laser power that may feedback to the DSP system

BTW, you may use the 5V from tje laser power supply. It should be Ok. But is possible, use the 24v that used to power the DSP to provide input for the 2405 module. The reason is that I don't kNow how mch current the 5V source from the PSU can suppor.

Many thanks Marko.
Since I've got plenty of spare 24 volt current, I'll use that.
I see a 24v line indicated on the DSP unit on both the '2 OUT' and the '3 OUT' sections - can I use one of them? (it would save me a bit of re-routing!)

Use the main powerfor the DSP, but not the output from either terminals of the Output. Aren't you used 24V to power the DSP?

FYI, those 24V output can handle up to 20mA. A current meter may take up to 35mA to run. You don't want to over-draft current from those output port

Just bought the new X7 DSP upgrade kit fir a dead, recently acquired K40 and got my links for downloading the wiring diagram, LaserCAD and manual. Neither the converter nor the e-stop switch is shown in the wiring diagrams. Is there a more up to date version?

hi rob
what converter you are talking? the e-stop switch goes in series with the main switch of the machine.

Sorry, should have specified. :) I'm talking about the 5V/5V DC-DC converter. I'm guessing it's used for the blue ammeter display. Schematic does not show it.

The re is a wiring diagram for it somewhere on this site! However I just Googled the words on the side of it and found all the info on the manufacturer's website.
ps - I superglued the voltage regulator to the back of the ammeter - kept things a bit tidier.
