issue with no deceleration when jogging

Post by Snin »

Hi guys,

we've built a laser cutter with the awc608 but there is one strange issue:
when using manual jogging, there is no deceleration when you release the jog button. Instead, the machine just tries to stop moving instantly. As we have quite strong servo's this generates a nasty bang in the machine each time you jog. This only happens with manual jogging. during cutting the machine accelerates and decelerates normal.

I've tried changing all the acceleration and jerk settings but found no difference. We don't have this problem on our earlier machine (also controlled by an awc608), it accelerates and decelerates nicely during jogging.
Is something wrong with the firmware maybe? We're running mainboard 7.13.08.15, lcd 5.12.02.29.

attached is a picture showing a plot from the servo drives doing a small jog. The yellow line is the commanded position received from the DSP. You can see a nice acceleration at the start (round curve) but a sudden stop at the end. Also notice how the drive can't stop that fast. It doesn't like this :)
