DSP I/O Ports?? Uses? Purpose? Benifits?

hello

i know this might seem like a dumb question to some but what could you possibly use the In and OUT ports on the DSP
if you guys could give me some examples i would greatly appreciate, i am just trying understand everything, and if can always and always improve my machine

Output 1: When XY stages is moving, there is level low (0V) output
Output 2: When laser is firing, there is low leve (0V) output (I used it for laser usage counter)

Input 1: Cover open protection.

Other I/O are "NA" and reserved for future expansion
