I would like to request if possible, some features be added to the lasercad software to make it more usable for me. I realize you intend for this to just send the work to the laser, but that is not truly possible because there is no way to assign cut parameters (speed, power, etc) to the drawing in any other program, which means lasercad Must be used to assign these operations ,implying that I would rather not lose that work each time I send something to lasercad. I like to save my work and make adjustments to it later.
Here are some enhancements and bug fixes I would like to request:
- a shortcut to changing the mode of the mouse from pointer/selecter over to the "hand" pan tool.
(adobe products use pushing the spacebar in conjunction with the left mouse button to quickly pan, autocad uses the middle mouse button to switch to pan mode - I would prefer the middle mouse button behavior)
- when I am working in a file, and click "File>New" or choose to create a new file in any method, I get a prompt which indicates that my current file will be "lost". If I click "cancel" on that warning my current file is still lost. In other words, once I choose to create a new file with one open, my current file is closed/lost no matter what; no "oops" allowed. If you have a dialog box like that it makes sense that clicking "cancel" means that I would rather NOT lose my current file. I would request that your programmer make that dialog "cancel" button actually cancel the new file operation and NOT lose my current open file.
- when I am working in a file, leave it open, then send a file from coreldraw, I would like lasercad to create that as a new file in lasercad rather than wiping the work in the open file and replacing it with the incoming file. I have lost work in this way a couple of times because of my habit to save my work frequently.
- the "import" word implies that the incoming file will be added to the existing file, not wipe it out. I would like to be able to open a file, and import additional .dxf or image files into it. This would save me time building a file in another software program, making lasercad more live up to its "cad" name.
I also would like considerably clearer user manual language. It is clear that the writer is not a native speaker which I have no problem with, however the lack of detail in certain areas is frustrating. For example, the section on "grade engrave" is inconsistent with the illustration that accompanies it and really leaves the reader with no clear understanding of the function or how to utilize it.
This all said, I would like to also show my appreciation. Your product has made my home-built laser actually usable and I am very pleased with the end results. I realize that I must learn to use the tool mostly through experimentation which I am fine with given the price point which is very reasonable. Thank you for providing an affordable entry into the world of laser cutting and engraving. You have done the community a great service with your product.
