DSP laser setting changes the laser power

Post by waltfl »

Hi all
maybe this is a question for marco and the engineer.
we try out different laser tube frequency starting with 25Khz going down to 20Khz and finally 15Khz all the same file the same file work settings.
at 25khz the power settings on the work file had to be 43% ( 15mA)in order to cut thru 5.2mm,
at 20Khz we had to reduce the power setting to 35% ( to get 15mA) but at 15Khz it had to be reduced to just 28% to get 15mA.
this seems to be to strange.
maybe someone know or marco could ask the engineer why this is that I have with 15Khz double the cutting power then with 20 or 25Khz.
greetings

Walt:

The issue is CO2 laser power supply related, not the DSP.

From what I understand (but I'm not an expert), higher frequency will generate higher voltage but less current as 'Power' unchanged. So, when you tune the frequency higher, you got higher voltage output but current got less. That's why you need to increase the power % on the DSP in order to get more current (in mA) as current is more significant on a CO2 laser tube.

Usually you don't want to tune the frequency unless you have a power supply that required a frequency other than 20,000Hz. I'll keep the frequency to 20KHz all time.
