Importing Objects/Engrave over size

Post by chakata »

I was hoping that the latest version of Lasercad ( 6.27 ) would have fixed this but I still cannot rotate or skew an imported object eg. a jpg or similar in Lasercad, whereas an object 'drawn' will .

Also a common complaint in this forum is re. Engrave over size and quite a few contributors to this forum have suggested various fixes which suggest that the parameters are setup wrongly in the first place. But how is it that a single imported object say 200mm x 200mm will engrave perfectly (at a certain speed) but 2x 50mm x 50mm imports will result in Engrave over size error?. The two small files are(in total) 1/4 the size of the large file, nothing's changed as far as parameters and engrave speed is the same. Also why should the large 200mm x 200mm file stop engraving approximately 1/2 way through its print-run if speed was 300 ( returning a "Engrave over size" error) but will continue perfectly if speed was 200?. A common 'fix' in this forum is to change acceleration rates so that the laser head can 'do its thing' but why has it waited until approximately half way through the job?. In the first half of the job it performs perfectly at the higher speed, its not going to run out of 'space' on the rest of the job , so why does it decide it can't do the second half?

Hi chakata
this probleme was explained a few times allready. it has to do with the overswing what the laser head need in order to activat the laser.
yes it is a big probleme that it goes half way or less and only then brings the failure and stop. the most terrible point is that it will not go on even if the speed is changed because in order to change speed you have to ESC and this breaks up the file and starts from the beginning after speed change and this can costa lot of money if you use good material like marbele or granit . this would be something what should be changed.
greetings
walt

What is your machine workable area? Is it the little K40 machine? If so, can you upload the images (200mm and 50mm) and let me try it here.

Before you do the real work, you can use the "Box" to check it. I believe that the box won't complete or won't work at all if the file is "out of workable area". If you're planning to engrave on some price materials, I recommend you run a test on a piece of paper with lower power setting. That way, it won't waste your costly materials.

Also, did you upgrade the mainboard, the OS??
Do it if you havne't upgrade your mainbaord. It's important. LaserCad has nothing to do with the control but the OS.

Hi Marco , thx for your interest. I havent been able to reply immediately as I've been away for a few days. The machine was a K40 but except for the blue box and x-y stages is almost entirely now a Lightobject including a new tube when original Chinese tube exploded. I'm not sure if I can supply those files at the moment as I may have deleted them in my frustration but can possibly make something up later. While I was getting a reasonable (I thought) speed on some files before I upgraded o/s to 120921 I have now got to the stage where I can barely laser anything without getting errors using similar speeds as before. I tried to revert the os back to its previous version but this makes no difference. As far as I know the parameters are setup using those that some of the forum contributors have posted but nothing I change makes any difference. Still those errors. I was trying to engrave a photo on acrylic but even at 90 speed and 20 power same thing!

Try also import any image into Lasercad and see if it can be rotated using either of the two methods. My laptop computer is 64bit Win7 that I,ve connected to the DSP

Win7 64bit? Then, did you install the 64bit driver for the DSP?
If not, please do so. The default is 32bit only

Update: I always use K40 for testing. So, I should be able to duplicate your problem if the issue exist. FYI, I use 2M415 stepping motor driver and selecting 3200 (1/16) for the resolution. My pulse unit setting is 6.74 something around. I'll copy my screen shot and post it here tomorrow.

If you can, try to get me the problematic image that you have trouble with and let me try it on my machine. If there is a bug, I'll make sure to ask the programmer to fix it asap. No panic, here you always can get a solution.

Regards,
Marco

Yes, has been done previously ...but do I need to do it again for every upgrade?

As long as you didn't "Install Driver" when doing new LaserCad, then you don't need to. But if you select "Yes to install a driver", possible that you're over-written the 64bit driver

I did install the drivers again as you suggest but just now I went back , got the 64 bit drivers , reinstalled that , tried again to laser a small file , first at 200 speed 20 power and then after that stopped in a short time tried at 100 speed 20 power with exactly same result...engrave over size

Send me the "Manufacturer Parameters" and "User Parameters" setup screen shot to me for review.

Also, send me a screen shot of the LaserCad with the image. Try use either "Soft Origin" or "Machine zero" to test again.
Let me know the result

Thx again Marco. My pulse units are 12.532935 on x and 12.562438 on y. Perhaps I'm missing something in my settings . When you say your resolution is (1/16) 3200 where do I find this place to enter/change this information. Attached is just one of the files that I,m having a problem with. Before this update I was able to laser this image very successfully on 130mm x 150mm ply at 150 speed.

The 1/2,1/8,1/16,1/32... or 200,400, 800,1600,3200,6400....... it's the setting you have to do on the stepping motor driver. Nothing to do with the DSP controller or the LaserCad

After upgrade peformed on the controller, you may need to write back data to the machine as it may reset the Manufacturer parameters or the user parameters.

Usually I save a backup of the setting once the system is tuned and working properly.

Tried again as you suggest with Soft origin and Machine zero. Both failed at 34 secs

Do this: draw a rectangular of 200mm x 100mm and center it. Do cutting with speed set to 300 and power =15% (estimated) on a piece of paper. Then, measure the dimension of the of cut (or burned) on the paper. You may use "Simiulation" before do a real cut. "Cntl +" speed up the simulation. It shouldn't be causing the "Beyond size" error.

The scan image you attached is small. I'm wondering how could it be possible that it could cause the "Beyond size" error.

By the way, your HOME is Top Left, right? So, check the "Work Space" under Option and check see if Machine Zero and Paser Zero are having the same setup. If one of them reversed, it may cause a problem.

I'll test your attached file tomorrow with my machine
