Laser Button on Display unit doing strange things!

Post by liaoh75 »

Hi All,

I'm now setting up my machine and doing mirror alignment. However, I ran into a very strange issue. About 75% of the time, when I press the "Laser" button to fire the laser, it does exactly as one would expect. It fires the laser for as long as you push the button. However, the other roughly 25% of the time, when I push the "Laser" button, the laser stays on and won't turn off until I push the button again. :o Sometimes this delay is as long as 4-5 seconds. This is a very dangerous problem as this button is used mostly to check alignment issues. Please Help!!!

Thank You,

David

This is typically a grounding issue. Specifically, run a separate ground line from the case of the DSP controller to the case of the Laser PS to the mains in ground. You may also need to run a ground line from the case of the control panel to the case of the controller.

Thank you Tim, I never thought about that. I'll run a dedicated ground line from the display unit to the frame of the control unit and then to the laser power supply. I will post results after a week or so of testing.

Hi Tim and All,

I have done as you suggested and sure enough the laser staying on problem has gone away. Thank you so much for your input. People like you, Marco, and all other responders on this great forum really make this DSP shine. Hopefully, one day, I will have enough experience to help someone else. Thanks a million.
