Acceptable power range for 24V on whiteface DSP 2012...

Post by Kenson »

I bought the new whiteface DSP 2012 unit and I've been testing the DSP on a bench power supply. I am now ready to integrate it into the laser cutter.

I had some confusion on voltage and current.

On the board it is labelled 24V with no current listed. In a youtube video, Marco says 24V 5Amp... on the "DSP Typical minimum operational connections" it says "Quality 9V-32VDC Power Supply, DC 1 Amp".
I've also seen 24V 2A on another post.

What is the minimum/maximum voltage and minimum current required to reliably run this board?

My main question is that I have some very high quality 20V power supplies which can put out 7 Amps. These are physically the ideal size to fit in my electronics enclosure. Would it be a problem to use these with the DSP 2012?

Thanks!

If you followed our post, there are 3 different boards in the history.
1) Dual voltage: 24V and 5V
2) Single voltage (old board)
3) Siingle voltage (new board 2012)

I tested 2012 and it took less than 1A current (about 850mA at idle). But the manufacturer recommended 2A or 2.5A ps for stable performance. If it really think that 1.5A is good enough. But even though it's less than 1A, it doesn't mean you want to use a 1A power supply. You always want to use a bigger size (50% more) to aovid 'overheated' for continuosuly work. Plus, in very odd case, the card may draw more current if it is support dual power supply and all other functions are in action. So, a 2A powe supply is good and nothing wrong with it

I have run it fine from 12V at 3A. It draws very little power.
