Hi Guys,
I have tried a few engravings with cutouts lately and can't get the table to work properly.
3 days ago I tried to do a circular engraving on the end of a stainless steel whiskey barrel and made a few trials on card stock first to test it out. (I always do this first)
The circular guide rings I drew came out circular but the curved text I put in just wouldn't curve to the right shape when engraved. I bent /curved the charachters almost twice as far as it needed to be but it still came out looking flatter by about 20mm and just wouldn't conform to the shape. ( I should post a few pictures of what it's doing ).
The yesterday I decided to check the pulses per mm and set up the table again and check it over a 600mm distance, the size of the steel rule I have. It was only off over that distance by about 0.5 to 1mm which I could live with with the work I was doing.
I now have it tuned in to pretty much exactly the right length in both axis. The auto set pulses setting works great.
I then tried to cut out a 75mm circle and it is 75 on the X side but 50 on the Y side. I tried a 75mm square with the same results.
When I get back home from the shop today I will have another go at setting it up just to see if I have moved a decimal point somewhere. It's strange that I can tune it to exactly 600mm but then the very next file comes out tens of mm out of shape.
If I can't get it right I will post some piccies here for you to ponder over.
Hey Marco. I'm loving the changes in the new board and the software. It's so much better now that I can raise or lower the table when I want instead of having to swap out limit setting directions etc. VERY happy with that.
I haven't had the chance to have a go at the "pulses per inch" when cutting yet to see the differences that makes.
Right now I just need to go through all the settings and see where I'm off. I haven't made any changes to it except for the readjustment to get it to move 600mm if I ask it to move 600mm. And it does so, I'm in a bit of a quandary.
Rich.
EDIT:::::
I had the Rotary setting still set up from a job I had done earlier in the day so that threw off my setup for flat engraving. My Y axis is 20.04ppmm and my rotary is 17.04345 which is fairly close but not nearly close enough. See below.

Re: DSP cutting/engraving oval instead of circle
There was one thing I didn't try and that was to convert the text to a bitmap before engraving. I think the DSP does this anyway but it might be where the problem is so I will try and convert it in Corel Draw first and see how it goes.

P.S. WELL...That was embarrassing!!!
I still had the rotary attachment settings loaded into the DSP from the last time I used it. I removed the rotary attachment and set the table top back up to the top but didn't reset the flat top setting back to where they should be in the software/DSP settings.
I still need to check the curved font engraving as that was when I had the problems trying to engrave on a curve but I will do that tomorrow when it's a bit warmer. 42F (10C) in the shed tonight which is a bit out of my comfort range.
