Re: Vector Cutting Speed Issue

Post by baccus61 »

Hi Marco.
I tried the 5.12.02.29.hex patch but it won't show up on the LCD screen. The other 3 patches ( V6, V7, V8 ) show up but I seem to need to be able to download the other patch before I do those because I get an error if I try to run them (as you stated earlier. I was just trying them to see if they work)

I converted the 5.12.02.29.hex patch extension to UG5 and the file showed up on the lCD screen but when I ran it, it started loading in but I ended up stopping the process by a Reset after 12 minutes of waiting. I didn't think a 167 Kbyte file would take more than 1 minute to install

Any ideas on how to patch this or does it take 20 minutes to install?

2 Hours later.........
I just tried to reinstall the patch and the DSP won't accept any of them now. Did I stop the install too soon.? The system still works and I can still send files too and fro and cut and engrave so I don't think I have wrecked anything. :-(

I have replaced the system with the new board you sent last week and got all that set up and the only thing I have found wrong is that the RESET button on the LCD panel doesn't work either in LCD mode or software mode and the entity rotate function in the software doesn't work. I don't use it so it's not going to affect me but others might need it.
"Reset" works in software by clicking with the mouse.

I like the "goto" function too. I really missed that from my old software. :-) Great job!!!

Were you using the old LCD for the new baord or did you use the new LCD that came with the new DSP? Unplug the LCD cable and try it again. It it didn't work, most likely that it's haveing a bad LCD panel template (key pad). I can send it to you with the LCD IC. That way, you don't need to run the LCD upgrade patch.

It's an upgrade to your LCD.

Marco,
This file does not show up on my LCD. Am I supposed to change the extension?

I took out the chip and was going to replace it with the new chip from the new LCD screen but then I thought....Why don't I just replace the old LCD with the new one. I did this but still had issues so I need to update the DSP as well.

I ended up fitting the new board and screen as it was easier to do and less trouble. :-)

I will wait for the new chip to arrive and go from there with the old one but for now I will use the new board.
Thanks Marco.

LCD really dosn't do too much on the feature of the new DSP card. The only new feature on the DSP is improving the 'micro stepping' from 10mm per step to as small as 0.1mm.

In your case, you need to upgrade the OS on the main board and run more update LC.

There are a couple bugus I just found on the new DSP card but it's shouldn't be very critical and should be able to fix by OS upgrade.

1) Faster speed happened on the 1st side of a square box. Say, it may take 5 second on the side one but it take 9s on the 2nd, 3rd, and the 4th side. It only happen when "Cut_Mode" is checked when download the file to the DSP.

2) If "Return Origin after work" is not checked, the laser head may runs into different location if you press "Start" for second job or so. The 3rd press may even cause reverse in X direction.

I'll talk to the programmer and will ask him to roll out a new patch asap to fix the error.

The latest LaserCad is v5.93 and you need to update the latest version on both your card in order for the PPI to work normal

I don't seem to have a problem on the new board with cutting as I can cut at 120mm/sec for 1mm thick cardboard at 35% power and haven't noticed any difference in speed from 1 side to the other side. I did press reset on the software to set up the home positions on 1 job that I done, and I am not sure, but I think the laser went to the old origin position. This was when I first turned the laser on. I pressed the Origin button on the screen again and had no problems after that. The head always went back to that origin for the rest of the night.
The laser head did move the wrong direction the first time I turned it on as it was set up wrong in the home direction settings but after I pressed the right buttons for the home again (left upper for Machine and left lower for Page) I didn't have a problem with it for the rest of the night. I thought it just needed reloading into the DSP as it was the first time I had used it.
I will test this again tomorrow when I get time as I don't want to feed you any misinformation as that would just complicate things.

I also need to do some rewiring on my table as well to get the air assist working one day. There never seems to be enough time in the day any more.

mattrsch wrote:I just updated my AWC-608. I installed 3 updates in succession to bring it up to the latest, starting with this one: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1089
I also updated to Laser CAD 5.9

The linked post describes an issue regarding inconsistent cutting speeds for vector cuts. I did not have this issue before updating, but now I do. Here is what I have observed.

I made a 20X20 mm square and set my vector cut speed to 5 mm/sec, so it should take about 4 seconds per side
The first side takes about 2 seconds
the second side takes about 3 seconds
the third and fourth sides take about 4 seconds each

I tried adding a second 20mm square in the same file, both squares cut at the same speeds

I pulled up a 15X15 mm square that was on the DSP from before the upgrades, it cuts as expected on all 4 sides.

My other computer still has Laser CAD 5.85, so I tried a 20mm square from there
The first side took 2 seconds
Sides 2-4 took 4 seconds each

Is it possible to roll my DSP back to a pre-update state?

A new upgrade OS just launched. Please download it and run it. The problem you have only happen if you select "Lin_Cut_mode". If you unchecked it, you shouldn't get that error even without this patch.

Marco,
The update appears to have fixed the issue. Thanks for all your help!
