Connecting controller to Gecko G251
Every wiring diagram I can find for the controller has the drives connected to step, direction and 5v.
The Gecko G251s that I am using have , step, direction and common (Connect this to your logic (controller) ground)
Is the LO controller able to have this type of driver connection?

EDIT: Typo

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
Hi Greolt,
Welcome.
I use Geckodrive's G201 drives in my set up and they work really well. Very easy to set up the motors
The biggest problem I have always had with the DSP was in setting up the limit switches as there are so many ways you can do it as well as using N.O or N.C switches.
If you buy a LO DSP then you will have a very good set up but some of the terminology does seem a bit strange when you first start using it.
This is a pretty active forum so you can get a fair bit of help from the people here when you first set up.

Rich.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
The G201s have step, direction and 5v. So this is the same as the connection diagrams in the DSP setup manual.baccus61 wrote: I use Geckodrive's G201 drives in my set up and they work really well. Very easy to set up the motors
Unfortunately the G251s are different in that they have step, direction and common (ground).
I will be surprised if the DSP does not allow for this kind of driver connection. There is a common or ground pin at the DSP driver connection point.
However before making that decision I would like to hear from support. Will also give some indication of the future support or otherwise I can expect.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
Try this:
DSP...... Driver
Dir ----> 9 DIRECTION
PUL ---> 10 STEP
5V ----> 12 Signal Gnd

I do not have a DSP to try. This is why I ask support before making a purchase decision.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
We dont have the driver so we can't test it either. For sure our driver works fine with the DSP. A lot of engraving manufacturer our driver.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
Let me put the question a little simpler.
Does the DSP support this connection to a driver?

Sorry, without the driver for testing, I don't want to make any assumption.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
I have 203V(common gnd) like 251- common to pin1, dir to pin 2, step
to pin4 instead of pin 5, when I hooked to pin 5 it runs ok but it keeps lost
step, but when i hooked to pin 4 everything ok, no lost step. my DSP is 2011 version not 2012.
when i use 201x step pin hooked to dsp pin 5 otherwise lost step. 201x common can be gnd or +5v

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
Thanks for that Itran2000.
Support should be able to tell us whether or not the DSP can provide a signal with reference to it's own ground pin.
Doesn't matter what drive, Gecko or otherwise. This is a common way of handling step and direction signals.
I don't think that is a difficult question to ask. It makes me wonder what technical support I can expect if I were to purchase.

We don't own the world and we don’t know everything available in the market. Support is just an ordinary human being and he is not a superman who know everything. Please, buy it elsewhere as we’re just too dump to do support for your mighty world

You misunderstand my question. Forget Gecko. That is irrelevant.
The question is.........Will the DSP provide step and direction signals in reference to its ground pin.
This is not a question about the world. It is a question about the DSP that you sell.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
I'm not the designer and I have no idea what is insdie of the DSP. We did provide a standard conenction diagram for stepping motor driver and sure that will work for it. Plus, the DSP work well for many well known driver that support the standard form. If you have something different than the normal driver configuration, we don't know and I have replied you twice about it.
Think this is a car that we make and it can only take Unlead 89 or 91 gasoline. Now a company know whoknow come up a different product and you asked whether you can use the new gas for this particular car. Nobody know unless the dealer or the manufacturer tried the new gas. I have told you times that I didn't want to make any assumption to tell whether the DSP was compatible to that Gecko drive or not without having the driver for testing. I'm responsible for what I'm telling. If I told you it worked and it has some issue later, whoever bought the Gecko drive would blame on me.
Every equipment or device has its own specification. To determine who should follow who's requirement then you have to ask who is having more 'standard' and well known. I'm sure that most people agreed that the DSP I'm selling is having more standard connection formation than that particular Gecko (not all though). How often you see that setup from other drive. I don't mean Gecko is no good but they just have too many model to selelct from. That's what I said "We don't own the world". So, why would we have to follow the non-popular standard setup? If I have the drive, I don't mind to run the test. But again, I don't know and I can't tell whether it works fine with the DSP in the mean time.
On the other hand, why don't you to check with Gecko support see if that driver work well on our DSP card. See how their Support reply your question before you make a blame on our support.

Re: Connecting controller to Gecko G251
I am with Greolt, it is a very general step&direction drive , with common either GND or +5v, it gives me a lot of hard time to figure out, but you all
know chinese products never have a good manual, anyway I love this DSP, easy to use,have been using it for almost 2 years without any problem, support from Marco is excellent.
