Feature Fix Needed

Post by twehr »

Marco,

Lasersafe1 told me about an issue that I did not realize existed. I promised him I would test it out and let you know what I found.

The DSP warns if there is not enough space to start a job, either in the X or the Y direction. It does NOT however, tell you if there is enough room to complete the job. Let me explain.

If you draw a square and tell it to engrave, the controller calculates if there is enough room, including the acceleration space required at each side of the object. If not enough space, it warns you with the "Extended Space" warning. That is good.

If you draw a triangle, with the widest part at the bottom, the controller will start the job and engrave until it reaches a point in the triangle where there is no longer enough room to process it, due to the need for the acceleration area at each side. Then it just stops the job.

What is needed is for the controller to look ahead in the encoded job to see if there is enough space to complete the entire job and give a warning before even starting the job. Getting the warning mid-job is too late and causes the user to waste sometimes valuable materials (granite, etc).

In this image, I put a triangle right next to the useable edge of my workspace. I first hand it outline the triangle, so you can see the area it is supposed to use, and then told it to engrave the same area. It only engraved a portion of the area and stopped with the "Extended Space" error.

Please contact your programmer and ask him to do calculations on the entire job before beginning to run it.

Thanks!

What happen if you run the the "Run box" or "clip box" before you tried the trangle?
I believe it's the reason why two buttons exists. Try it let me know how it goes before I talked to the programmer
Right now, there are so many features on the new version and I don't think that he got enough time to put in any new features fro the coming release

They only measure the bounds of the finished project. They do not include the extra space needed for acceleration on the engraved portions.

Ok, already sent your request to the programmer. He said that this one would be tough but could be possible. It will take him a while to get this one done.

Marco. Please note that they Box feature should not be changed! It is important to keep it as it is, because it helps us visualize the output in relation to the material.
