Hello everyone,
I just purchased a K40 laser and intend to do the conversion to the lightobject DSP PH-BOARD V2.0.
The machine must have had a collision. It was damaged when I opened the double boxed shipping and the intake cooling water glass connection was broken off the left side of the tube. I notified the shipper and they will provide a replacement tube. Everything in the literature package was scattered throughout the machine and the shipping box, water pump was just tossed in too, it's box was flattened. I didn't know where to begin until I found the CD that was mixed in with the packing material. I strained all the material and found the memstick.
There was no data on the USB memory stick. Is that important and if so can I get a copy of the memory stick files from anyone if necessary?
I have some CNC integration experience, very sparse on laser, and am looking for information or suggestions, that might help me out so I don't have to re - invent the wheel.
I'm looking for drawings showing assembly of this machine.
Following is a list of some of the detatils I have to deal with.
The work piece holder has a spring clamp, and the aluminum plate it's mounted in is bent down out of shape. I think it has to be flat so that it's surface is normal to the beam, is that correct?
The aluminum plate seems to be mounted on hex stand offs to the cabinet bottom. Is it a good idea to remove the plate and straighten it out or should I just replace it with another work surface?
I saw one guy's machine design that used perforated metal for the work support, similar to what's one power supply elclosure. Is perforated metal a better material choice if I replace the plate?
The home limit switch is in the top left hand position, can it be located in the bottom left position, where most of the drawing origins are?
Are there any drawings available for the mechanical assembly of the components, which might explain how to take out the assembly containing all the linear rail, and motor drives, belts and pulleys? The gantry is binding slightly in 4 locations, I guess it's a bent shaft, causing the problem.
I want to connect the X axis motor that provides the left and right carriage movement. The X axis motor and optical limit switch appears to connect to CN3 on the K40 board with a flat white 12 conductor ribbon cable, similar to Parlex Micro cable, as seen on plotters and printers. How do you make connections to the ribbon cable conductors for the 4 motor conductors to the stepper motor, and also access the 3 or 4 limit swith conductors? The ribbon cable is inserted into a thin, edge connected socket on the K40 board.

I received your returned card and I tested it and compared it with another DSP card. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I used your card to test the D40K machine and it works great. I can get max speed 300mm/s on X and 150mm/s on Y. The reason that you couldn't make X, or Y go further because you didn't set parameter right. The "Pulse (um)" is a very important number that you need to put it in and save it. It determine the distance of each pulse step. I have taken video on a machine driven by your card. I'll post it on Youtube soon
I'm going to test it on two TB6560 stepping motor driver and I'll save the info on the card. Since I'm uisng the same machine, you can just plug in to your machine after receiving the DSP card. Then it should work the way it should. I'm going to select TOP-LEFT for the HOME. Once system power up, the laser head should go to the Left and Up assuming if you locate the laser head right in the middle of the X,Y table before power the DSP up.
If the movement is other than Left and Up, then you better disconnect the motor power and revese the A and B location.
Red = A +
Blue = A-
White = B+
Yellow = B-

The machine was running about 200mm/s on the video. But it could go as fast 400mm/s

That's looking pretty sweet Marco,
I use a few Alnico magnets to hold stuff down to my table but if yours is aluminum then you could just lay a couple of steel rules or pieces of steel along the side to hold down the paper or card stock.
The magnets are weak enough that I can easily pick them up off the table. If you used Neodymium magnets they would be far too strong for ease of use and they break really easily.
