What gauge wire?

Post by shanet94 »

I am wiring up the box that comes with the X7dps / Nema 23 high torque3-phase 5A stepping motor / 3MD560 Leadshine compatible 3 Phase 8.4A 1-axis Stepping Motor Driver. I have a bunch of 3 wire 18 gauge. Will that be large enough? Will be short runs must 2 feet, with the exception of the motors they will be 2-4 feet.

Thank you

To connect the X7 to the stepperdrivers (With DIR-/+ PUL-/+) 18 gauge is more than enough even 24 gauge would do it there.. But to supply the motors i would use a flexible shielded chaincable with gauge 16 or 17 wires, just to have more power in the motors. Stationairy motors (like your Z and Y motor probably) can be wired with a normal shielded cable gauge 16 or 17... this doesn't need to be a specific chaincable.

Thank you! I have some 16-3 as well that is in a rubber jacket. Will use that on the steppers.
