For simplicity sake imagine im trying to produce a coaster. I have my design made in illustrator.
I want to wngrave the design then cut out the shape. However when i import the bmp/jpg for the engraving i cannot then import the outline of the cut within the same page.
Ive tried numerous ways to do this using one and two seperate files.
Am i missing an obvious way to import to a new layer?
Any way around this?
Cheers
How do i cut and engrave on the same job in lasercad?

Re: How do i cut and engrave on the same job in lasercad?
I do this quite often in Acryl-sheet, but in another sequence: because of the pollution while cutting I leave the protective sheet on both sides and cut it first. Then, with taking care not to move the sheet, I take out the cut-out, remove the protective sheet from the topside and place it back. then I do the engraving (with a separate file)
Most of the engravings, I do, are vectors but if you make the bitmap exact the same size as the contourvector and place it in LaserCad with the same location as the outlinevector, you can save both items separately in two files.. Call them something like "objectENG" and "objectCUT" so you recognize the separate files.
I use Photoshop to prepare the Bitmaps an CorelDraw to make the outlinevectors.
does this answer your question?

Simplest way is to engrave a vector.
This may or not be possible or desirable with the art work you have.
Almost all engraving I do is vectors. YMMV
