What was the problem? I'm having a similar issue with a K40 upgrade and the Y axis only moving one direction. Once in a while it will work correctly, usually just after changing any parameter in the manufacturer parameters and I've seen it properly draw the duck several times. After finishing the job it goes right back to moving only in one direction. This is an X7 and I've verified the connections are correct and tight. When it's acting up (most of the time) it doesn't matter which direction key I push and it doesn't matter whether I do it from the front panel or LaserCad, it always moves the same direction. In fact, it doesn't even move off the limit switch when homing. I will try swapping the motor drivers and ports on the DSP tomorrow...

Marco, It looks as if I got a bad DSP. I swapped the motor drivers and the problem (Y Axis moving only one direction regardless of which direction it is commanded to move) stayed with the Y Axis. I then swapped DSP ports and home switches such that the X Axis was being driven by the DSP Y Axis port and the Y Axis was being driven by the X Axis port and the problem stayed with the Y Axis port. In other words after the port swap the machine Y Axis acted normal and the X Axis now would move only one direction. I have triple checked the wiring and the connections. I have verified proper connectivity between the motor driver and the DSP port with a meter. I strongly suspect that if I put my 'scope on the direction line I would see no activity. What's the procedure for getting a replacement board? I will be out of town all next week and would love to have a new board here to install when I get back on Friday.

Thanks,
Dean Clauson

We received your package but you didn't send the DSP main unit (LCD) but only a connection board was received. There is no way we can do a test. Unlike AWC608, the X7 main processor is installed in the LCD unit (integrated). Regardless, when anyone report problem with the DSP system, we need complete system to test. We don't know if the problem is coming from the main processing unit or from a bad connection terminal. So, it must sent in full package

We received your board and tested it but found nothing wrong with it. We will take a video and show you. Since there is nothing wrong, we will request $20 to cover shipping and testing fee.

]Dean, here is a sample we tested from your DSP card. We tested RESET Homing, Left, Right, Up/Dn and ran through alignment test for last two days. We couldn't duplicate the problem you have. Y was always working properly throughout the tests the way it should.

Per your insisting, we will send you a new unit even though I don't agreed that it is DSP issue. I hope that it is what you claim "intermittent" issue and have the problem fixed when installed because it cost us a lot effort and $$. If you still get the issue, I will recommend that you check the motor driver, it seems that it is either a faulty motor driver or bad terminals.

I discussed this issue with the tech and was told that the problem could be a lose connection on a connector behind the LCD control unit.
You need to make sure that the plug inserted completely and if not, it could cause the issue above. I belive that is the case as we couldn't duplicate the problem for last two days after number of testing done.
Lost connection caused no 'winner' but frustration. So, please pay attention to the connection when installing the DSP card.

We ran a few test again today and intentionally loosen a communication cable (black cable) that attached the control unit and the silver box, we could duplicate your problem.
The "Y" couldn't move one direction, exactly you mentioned. After unplugged and plugged it back again firmly, the DSP worked like a charm.
The lose plug caused the "intermittent" problem you have

Per your email, you said that there was a component burned but we found nothing per your description.
If you can't point us to the right component you though that was burned, then I would have to sustain my claim, the board is Good.

Case closed
