Well getting on with installing the x7, one thing I am not sure on.
At the moment there is a separate driver and stepper motor connected, would this go to the u connection ?.

No, it should be connected instead of the Y.
The U is an axis that is meant for material transportation and shal move a programmed amount after a job is done, so you can restart the job on a new piece of material.
With some electronics you can use the U axis for different applications, like lifting the table when you want to multipass thick material..
