Problem connecting JP-80 PSU to AWC608

Post by amosjoseph »

I'm having an issue with connecting a JP-80 PSU to the AWC608.

Without the laser connected, the 608 starts up fine, both axes move as expected and I can load files and it will run jobs. I can also plug in the Laser PSU without the 608 connected and hit the test button and the laser will fire without issue. However, when I connect the 608 to the laser PSU and plug in the PSU the screen on the 608 immediately goes blank and the PSU makes a clicking noise. After unplugging the Laser PSU I have to cycle the power before the 608 will start up again.

The PSU has the following pinout: H L WP G IN 5V

I am connecting it as follows to the Laser1 pins on the 608:

H = No connection
L = TTL
WP = G
G = G
IN = PWM
5V = No connection

I've triple checked my wiring harness and have even continuity tested the pins between the 608 and the Laser PSU and appear to have everything connected the way the interface schematic suggests.

Sounds like a grounding issue.

Disconnect power from the AWC608 and measure the voltage between the ground which goes to the 608 and the G on the PSU.
