Please help. AWC608 not running jobs from lasercad

Post by jjpumphrey »

Hello,
I am having issues running any kind f job from LaserCAD 7.09. At first the machine would show the file was running and then go back to an idle state. I drew a simple box 50mm x 50mm and placed it in the upper left where I have the machine zero set at upper left.
I tried rebooting the pc and the machine and now I get an error saying "Engrave beyond size". So far I have tried upgrading the firmware and I am running main board - 7.14.07.08, LCD board - 5.13.09.15. The machine does run the 'cut box' function from the main menu. I am running the LaserCAD on a WIN7 64bit machine downloading files to the machine via IP connection from network.
Gone through the system settings and cannot find anything that would throw a size error from the machine. Is there a specific setting I am missing?
This is a new upgrade I have been working on for the past few weeks. The machine does reset to the upper left zero position. It was running the sample file that was in the AWC608's memory when I got it. I just can't get it to run a job from laserCAD.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!! :)

format the machine memory with the display function, check your net work or use a usb cord to test it. you also can use a usb stick load the file from lasercad on it , insert it to the usb on the controller and use the file button to select it.

'Engrave beyond size' usually just means that some port of your work is going outside the machine's boundary as that boundary is known to the DSP unit.
Commonest reason is a muddling of 'home' corners, so that - for instance - a picture whose top left corner you think is homed to the top left corner of the work area actually has its bottom left homed there and the laser is trying to draw upwards from the corner. Since it can't, it returns the error.
Not the only cause, but a very common one.

I had the "engrave beyond size" error as well, and as NickWL said, it was because my artwork was near the home corner.

I believe during engraving the head begins to the left (or right) of the area to be lasered, to give the head room to get up to speed, so if you try to engrave a picture too close to your machine's boundaries you will get this error. I moved my workpiece away from the edge, reset the origin, and the error went away.

Another fun one that I had to discover on my own has to do with power and speed settings. I couldn't figure out why the laser was not honoring the speed set in lasercad, until i went into the AWC608's menu to "control mode' and set "soft layer params." Yes, that's in the manual, but I managed to miss it anyway.
