Supply voltage for AWC608?

Post by Preso »

Hi,
Just received my AWC608 DSP and was about to delve into the guts of my Chinese 500 X 300 laser for upgrade. When I checked the existing power supply for the old DSP it is a 36V DC switchmode. Can anyone tell me if the AWC608 is OK with 36V? Technical notes say it is but I want to be sure before I buy a 24V unit or blow up the DSP.

36V is ok but if you have 24V, it would be better as 36v is the max

This question is related, but the other direction:

How _low_ can the supply voltage be? Can I supply it 12V?

I've supplied 12V to the AWC608 instead of 24. So far, it has not complained, but I have not installed it in the system and run real jobs yet. The OUTPUT signals output 12V, as expected.

I use 48V for my steppers, so feeding the stepper supply to the AWC is not a good plan. Other subsystems in my laser will run on 12V, so I am planning to run the 608 off that.

I'm taking the chance that the reason the AWC608 is normally fed 24V is because that's a typical stepper supply value. Internally the DSP must run on regular logic voltages like 3.3V and 5V.
