LaserCad stepover control

Post by brian257 »

I am assuming that when engraving you would want the stepover control to be just a tiny bit less than the width of the focused beam. Am I correct? That leads to the question of what is the focused beam size on a K40 with the various lenses. Does anyone have the beam size on a typical K40 with the 50.8mm and the 38.1mm focus lenses or does anyone have settings they have used that seem to work good?

It really depends on what you are engraving. For example, engraving wood would produce a thicker line than say marking anodized aluminum. Speed settings change the results too. I would bet tubes from different companies produce different beam widths too, especially on the k40 machines. Your best bet is to play around with the settings until you find what works for whatever it is you are engraving. Once you are in the ballpark it's easy to find the correct settings.
