Engraving migrating to the right

Post by Ihrke052 »

Sorry if this has already been covered but I had a very successful engraving today with my home built cnc laser but noticed the engraving migrates slightly to the right on the engraving. I feel like it could simply be a matter of the y axis speed/acceleration but was hoping for input from others. I am still testing settings in my stepper drivers to get them dialed in but ultimately I really liked my final product today, just wish it wasn't slightly skewed.

I have had successful cuts and (from what I can tell) they aren't skewed at all. My table is a large gantry system with 2 x axis motors working together and a single y motor. I have the speed/acceleration set to the same for both x and y but have noticed others on here setting their y slower. Is this typically the best for the y axis and if so, why?

Are you using my DSP card? How fast did you run the engraving? You may change the X or Y or both oby changing falling edge to rising edge or the other way around

Some motor driver is rising edge triggering while other is falling edge triggering

Do you mean the origin is moving? Or is the whole picture drifting rightwards as it prints?
Maybe a photo would help if the latter is the case.

Here is an example. It may be hard to see it but compared to the digital file I can tell the face gets slightly skewed as it moves down the picture.

I am using the AWC608 and have tested numerous speeds and have seen this "skewed to the right" look on most of them. I have typically kept the x and y axis the same though, so if I change one I change the other to the exact same speed/acceleration, which is why I thought maybe that could be it. Wanted to check though if this is commonly the result of anything else.

Thanks for the responses!

As Marco has said, first thing I would be looking at is the "Pulse Edge" setting.
