Water Protect signal?

Marco,

I'm trying to get the "water protect" signal on the AWC-608 to work correctly. I have the "Water Protect" check box enabled in the "Manufacturer Parameters" control panel.

On the laser power supply I have a "WP" connection, and on the controller "Laser1" port I have a "Protect" cable. My laser has a water flow switch that closes when water flows through the switch.

I've tried hooking the switch up to the laser1 port and connecting it both active high, and active low ( GND -> WP_SWITCH -> PROTECT) and active high (5V -> WP_SWITCH -> PROTECT) and in both cases the controller displays the "Water protect!" message when I try and start.

I'm unsure how to connect these three pieces together together. How does one hook up the water protection circuitry so that it only triggers when water flow stops?

Thanks!

Hello Mike:

Usually you don't need to enable the water protect on the DSP. Instead, you hook up the water sensor to the power supply. If water isn't flowing, the laser power supply will be disable. Only if WP (water proetect) is ground will enable the power supply.

Most water sensor is "normally opened". It closed when water is flowing. What you need to do is to connect GND to one end of the water sensor, then connect the other end of the water sensor to the laser power supply "WP". That will take care the issue
