New member basic question.

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have built several CNC machines but this is my first try at a laser. I have an older LMI lasergraver 2 which I plan to update. It has a 30 watt Synrad laser (rf?) instead of a glass tube laser.

Can the DSP be used to control this laser? Also what does DSP stand for?

Bill

Easy question first - DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing. A generic term but in laser control, it is the top of the line method.

For the Synrad compatibility - I believe it should. I know there have been conversations on the board here about use with possibly Synrad and/or other rf lasers. I think that the laser signal frequency is more critical for RF, but that is configurable in the DSP. As I recall, the DSP setup includes setting for either RF or Glass (at least the earlier version did), so my guess is that it should work.

Thanks for the response. I have been looking forward to tackling a laser upgrade. Now with the amount of info here, I think I can do it.
