Dual x axis motors

Hi there.. I just received the DSP and am getting ready to wire it up. Special thanks to Rich(baccus61), he has been a great help in getting my machine together. I read on a previous post that the DSP supports 2 x axis and 1 y axis. I am familiar with mach 3 and setting up a slave axis, but was curious how to go about setting up dual x axis motors with the new DSP. I didn't see anything right off in the documentation..

Thanks..
Chris

Hi there,

I'm in exactly the same situation. I have dual Y axis servo motors for the gantry. In mach3 i've set one motor as a slave of the first and it runs just fine. During homing the axis are controlled independent so that the gantry always gets pulled straight. I'm now ready to hookup my lightobject dsp controller but i'm wondering if I can use one of the expansion ports as a slave axis.

If not, does anybody have a good idea how to run a slave cnc axis without using mach?

thanks,
Jiskar

As I know, the DSP doesn't support Master/Slave mode. The Z or A axis control doesn't move in syn with the X,Y axis, it's designed for the material feeding or the table's up/dn features only. It's not 2.5D or 3D like a CNC router.

Dual X motors would use the same connection as a single X motor but you would wire the second motor with reversed phase leads out of the stepper driver so it runs in the opposite direction. There is nothing special you would need to do in software or the DSP.

To reverse the direction of a stepper you simply reverse the A+/A- leads or the B+/B- leads, but not both.
