Wiring LO Power Supply / remove Insulation?

Hello,

i own the 40W~60W PWM CO2 Laser Power Supply (AC 220V) and want to wire the 40w tube today. I wanted to make sure that everything is right so i would like to ask if i can remove some of the red insulation for the high voltage /positive connection in order to get some more wire for soldering. Or is this supposed to be that short in order to reduce the amount of uninsulated wire? Why is there also a silicone tubing around that wire? Is there anything else i need to take care of?

thank you!
tm

Yes you can, the silicone tube is for extra insulation.

What do you want to solder with the HV-cable? On one side it is normally a part of the HV-transformer and on the lasertube's pin you can't and you shouldn't solder.. (the glass will probably crack)
If there is a connector in the cable (many are white) you can solder in it but many have a construction so you only have to press the wire in and sometimes fold it a bit..
