I have looked on this forum where people recommend turning it on/off for various things, looked on Google, and in the 608 manual, but I still have been unable to figure out what BMP Optimize actually does. Can someone help me out with that?

Bitmap Optimize can give you slightly more contrast on grayscale images, at least that is what I noticed..
