AWC 608, 40 watt power supply
Hello,
After a very long time, I finally got to the point of firing up my buildlog laser. Before I hooked up the tube power supply and water protect switch and emergency stop button, everything worked fine. machine reset and homed correctly. I could run a job from the software. I hooked up my water pump (24 Volt) to the DSP and it was running fine. Wired up water protect switch and that seemed to worked ok. Here is were things started getting ugly.
Energized the machine, it homed and reset fine. Hit the laser button, the laser fired continuously and would not stop. (First issue).
Then the water pump stop working and got warm (Getting power to it). Now machine homes, but does not recognize the limit switches (They are wired correctly and are working) and LCD reads "resetting". I hope I have given enough info for some input. Question is, did I fubar something or do I need a firmware reset?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Matt

Not sure but i get the idea that you blew the 24V regulator inside the AWC (if there is any) The waterpump is a serious load and IMHO it should run continuous as long as the machine is on. You can place a switch between your supply and pump to put it off when not needed but is should be on before you start the job and let it run at least a few minutes after the job is done. You can turn off the laser aswell if you don't need it
It can also be that the pump creates so much interference on the supplyline that the AWC won't work properly.
First: connect the pump to your main 24V supply instead of your AWC ( you can also use a interference-suppressor-filter.. i.e. a coil of a few mH), pray that you haven't blewn anything and fire it up again..

Thanks for the reply. I opened up the hood on the AWC and sure enough there is a scorched lead. I am hoping my electronics guy
can repair it. Don't want to have the expense of replacing it, e

specially since I have not even use it yet.
As soon as the pump quit working, I had a suspicion that I should have hooked it to the power supply. Oh well, another lesson learned the hard way!

Matt:
Not sure how you did that but I am so sorry to hear that the AWC608 blew!
Anyway, when did you buy the card, from us or from other parties? If from us, well, I can help you. You just need to send it back to my office in China and pay a little repair fee and I can have the manufacturer to repair it for you. The shipping for one way is roughly $38 to $45, plus $50 repair fee. So, we're talking about $140 to get it repair. But if you have a better plan, then go for yours

Thanks Marco,
That sounds like a great option.
I have a buddy that is a electronics tech. He may be able to help me.
If not, I will contact you.
It is so nice to know you are always front and center and willing to help.
It has been nothing but a pleasure to deal with you!
Thanks, matt

It is always my pleasure to be able to help you folks.
I know there is some learning curve and pain, but "no pain, no gain". We all learned from mistake. Remember that once you learned 'how to', it can save you a lot$ because out there, tech charge $150/hr to repair or fine tuning laser machine.
No picnic to all my LO fellows.
Regards,
Marco

Hello,
I have replaced my water pump and everything seems to be ok
except when I hit the LASER button the tube fires continuously until I power down
entire unit. I know it is something that I'm not doing correctly (wiring?, setting?)
I've gone over the schematics, Tim Wehr's info and the forum, but I can't seem to find what the issue is.
As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Matt

Check on 'TH' and 'TL', always use 'TL' to connect to the TTL on the DSP

Hello Marco!
I had that backwards.
I corrected it and now I do not get anything from the tube.
It does make a hissing noise like it is trying to energize.
Thanks, Matt

Increase current. Try 8% on output
Also, double check the negative wire as it may got lose

I hate to ask this, but where is that setting.
I'm at the point of being paranoid.
I'm afraid to change anything. I change one thing and it screws up five,
then I have to fight to get back to baseline.
P.S. Thanks for getting that water pump out so quickly. it arrived yesterday.
THanks, Matt

Draw a box by using LaserCad.
Then, on the righ top corner where you can see the layers of each drawing. Double click it and select "Cut" and set the power to 8% and speed to 100mm/s
BTW, you better lock the max Power on Manufacturer parameter so that the max current wont' over the limit the tube can sustain. Click 'Read', then you put down a number to the Max_Power(note, it is different than the power level on drawing), save it, then hit Reset to take it in effect. Then, on LCD panel, set the power to 99% and hit "Laser", that way, you know what is the maximum output.

Woohoo, We're making progress.
I have changed the settings like you instructed.
The tube now fires with a brief push of the "LASER" button.
Although, when the tube is firing the 100ma meter reads "EE.E"
Am I powering the tube too much or not enough?
The LED screen on the unit is now reading "60" in Power.

Where did you connect the meter to?
You will NEVER be able to get 30mA or above from a 40W LPSU (in general). 100mA.. no way!
Seems you have wrong connection. I strongly recommend that you go over your connection with our connection diagram.
You must follow the one we provided but not from other folks because they may used it differently for different items.

I read the manual. I'm drawing my 5v off the ACW module.
I now see that is no good.
Am I correct to order EPS-2405S-2W?
Again Thank you very much Marco!!!!
