3MD560 STEPPER DRIVER

HI All,
Am progressing with my laser build, still on the framework to house the x-y stage and ancillary equipment. However I have time to ponder (seem to have a lot of time to ponder when retired) on the 3MD560 stepper motor drivers that I have bought from L.O. to work with the XLE 900 x 600 stage which comes with 3 phase 1.2 steppers.
The 3MD560 BOARDS BOTH CAME COFIGURED with switches 1 thru 8 as follows off, off,on,off,on,off, off,on.
Switches 1 thru 4 control the current and switches 5 thru 8 control the Micro step setting.
The minimum setting is 200 steps per rev according the silkscreen but how can that be if the motors are 1.2 ' i.e. 300 steps per rev mechanically?
What are the correct settings for this xle stage when used with the 3MD560 DRIVERS please.

Hi All,

Having thought about it some more, I have come to the conclusion the silkscreen on the 3MD560 is for a 1.8' stepper motor so I will ignore the silkscreen and instead work with "step division ratio"
i.e if the silkscreen says 800 then the step divn ratio would equal 800/200 = 4

so to use this as a working setting say for the Y axis on my 900 x 600 stage would the calculation for the uM/pulse setting required in the AWC 608 be like this :....

pulley on Y axis has 20 teeth, belt pitch on Y axis = 3mm so 1 complete revolution of the pulley would cause a movement of 20 X 3 mm = 0.060 Mtrs
In order to move the pulley 1 complete revolution the stepper would require to be pulsed by 300 ( 1.2' step motor) X 2 (mechanical gearing) X 4 (example divn ratio) = 300 X 2 X 4 = 2400 steps/rev
therefore each step would move the Y axis by 0.060/ 2400 Mtrs = 25uMtrs.
Does this look right for the method please?
Any idea what is the correct divn ratio for X and Y stage with motors running off 36Volts using supplied motors on the XLE Pro stage

Marco,
Any thoughts on the above please, I have had no Reponses from the forum community on this after a week so now have to directly appeal to you . Sorry for taking up your time.

Henry:

On the XLE series model, you can set the micro-stepping to 3200 or 4000. Even 5000 is ok but doing so you got less torque. So, I will shoot for either 3200 or 4000

Once it is set, you may pick "um" = 6.5 to make the XY running. Then, you can fine tuned it later

Hi Marco,
Thanks for the reply, will try those settings when build advances .
