Laser PSU
Hi Marco,
Bought an upgrade kit for Chinese K40 laser from you July (last year),just getting round to fitting it all together ! First problem,24volt power supply shut down after 4 hrs , and now only puts out 3volts,just ordered a 10amp supply from you yesterday to replace the 5 amp supplied(only running two fans, two stepper motors and 608).Have used old PSU from original unit, at the moment, have got it all working, apart from laser!
When fitting laser PSU to box, did hear and feel something loose, opened case and found square u shaped piece loose on one of the small transformers or chokes, did not look to be broken, just loose, lined it up with the marks ,where it had been , and a glued it back in place with a touch of super glue !
Have wired it according to you data on your Hummingbird article, cant get it to fire ! TTL led not lit, at side of plug, but laser led is ! fan is running OK in Laser PSU, Have tried test button but nothing happens, nor does anything happen via control box laser button. Faulty unit possibly? Or am I missing something ?? Don't want to return it, unless you think its faulty, I know you run them before dispatch, maybe had a bang in transit , although no damage to box on arrival! It was all nicely packaged, I checked to contents against invoice and put it all away for a rainy day, and day started last week !!

Re: Laser PSU
Did you ground the water protection "WP" on the power supply or has a water sensor installed?
You can test the power supply by doing th following procedures:
1. Ground the "WP"
2. Connect 5v to the" IN"
3. Connect TH to the ground to fire in full power
(note that it may output over 22mA at full power)

Re: Laser PSU
Thanks for reply Marco, will try tonight and see what happens,by passed water protect switch, jumper from WP to G on PSU,Assume I can take 5v from 608 laser plug.On connecting as you reccommend,do I use test button on laser PSU to fire laser(could be classed as stupid question),but I
.like to be sure)
Many Thanks,Bill Watson

Re: Laser PSU
You don't need to get 5V from the DSP but on the PSU unit. There is "5V" on the last pin of the terminal. Just tap it to the IN and it will provide enough power to fire it in full power.
No TEST button need. Once you touch "TL" to the GROUND, it will fire!
(Sorry, my mistake from last post. It is "TL", not "TH")

Re: Laser PSU
Hi Marco,
Wired PSU as per your e-mail,but NO Fire !! Red led went brighter, but nothing else,no current shown on digital meter, any idea ? Rebuilt and rewired complete laser cutter, Blue return wire and red HT wire clamped into metal sleeve, which I then, screw clamped to tube connections, and then silicone in side a silicone sleeve.Blue wire to connector on back of PSU.Should that be earthed to chassis and electrical house earth ??
If you reckon its not working, maybe I will order another from you and return this one for repair or replacement(You will be able to see that it has not been used,as it is as new)
Look forward to your reply
Bill Watson
PS if returning Laser power supply, can I also return 24v 5Amp supply at the same time ?

Re: Laser PSU
Did you set Input as AC220V (UK)?
Is fan blowing?
Also, you may want to check the fuse of the power supply. Open the case and you will see a small black fuse box next to a coil. Open the cap and check the fuse see if it blew.
Did you ground the case (every thing!). For all CO2 laser machine, it must be grounded to the earth. Otherwise, trouble is coming like LCD blank out or other strange things may happen.
Let me know how it go. You may ship both items to my office in China and we can ship you a replacement direct from there. That way, I don't need to carry over to China for exchange

HI Marco,
Voltage set to 220v,fan is blowing, will check all the earth lines, and check fuse in case, and try again !
I am correct in saying earth the blue wire from tube to connector on back of case and that should also be connected to earth?
Bill Watson.

Re: Laser PSU
Leave the blue to the tube only. Some PSU may treat it as ground but some PSU has an isolated negative which is not the same as fround.
I will just leave it alone

Re: Laser PSU
Hi Marco,
Earths seem to be OK, but not had time to pull unit out to check internal fuse.
Today I ordered another PSU(laser) from you, and that, at least should get me going, and give time to check and return other one ,if faulty
Thanks,
Bill Watson.

Re: Laser PSU
To docwiz, your PS was blew out based on the picture you sent for review. It seems that you have shorted circuit on the output. That's why the two power transistor blew and cracked

Re: Laser PSU
Hi Marco,
Checked fuse in Laser PSU, its OK, looks like a return for a replacement is called for!
Can you send me you Address in China, and I will post the items to there.
Many Thanks, for all your help
Bill Watson.
